Three killed in collision along Edison Road

Nov. 6—An Arvin man was arrested Friday after authorities say he drove through a stop sign on Edison Road and caused a collision that killed three female occupants of another vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol reported that JoseDejesus V. Gomez was driving a red 1998 Jeep north on Edison approaching Di Giorgio Road when he slammed into the other vehicle, a while 2018 Volkswagen, that was proceeding east through the intersection after stopping at the four-way stop.

A CHP news release said Gomez "failed to slow or stop" for the posted stop sign, striking the right side of the VW and causing it to lose control and hit a railroad crossing arm.

Gomez sustained minor injuries and was treated at Kern Medical. The three people killed in the accident were not identified.

Alcohol and drugs are being investigated as possible factors, the release stated.
