Three injured in structure collapse at Machesney Park construction site

Emergency responders were on scene of a collapsed structure that was under construction Monday afternoon in the 9900 block of North Alpine Road in Machesney Park.

Three injuries were reported. According to officials, the three people injured were operating cranes at the construction site at the time of the collapse.

Two were taken to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital — Riverside. Their conditions are not known. The third person injured was evaluated by Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department personnel and refused treatment.

The cause of the collapse, which took place at an expansion project at Hennig, Inc., is under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department.

The entire steel frame of the building that was under construction collapsed, officials said.

Officials confirmed that there were no fatalities.

Machesney Park-based Hennig is a leading producer of machine protection and chip/coolant management systems.
