Three dead after trains collide in Czech Republic

At least three were killed and dozens were injured Wednesday when two passenger trains collided in the Czech Republic.

According to Czech Railways, an international train traveling from Munich to the capital of Prague collided with a local commuter train shortly after 8 a.m. while passing through the southwestern Czech town of Milavce, about 105 miles from Prague.

Three were killed in the crash and dozens were injured, including eight seriously. The injured were taken to hospitals in both Prague and Germany, authorities said.

No other information about the victims was released. Local media reports said the drivers of both trains were killed.

Photos from the scene showed extensive damage to the front of high-speed train’s engine.

Czech Transport Minister Karel Havlicek said the crash was likely caused by human error. He said the driver of the high-speed train missed a stop signal before crashing.

“The situation is serious,” Havlicek said.
