Three boys were hit by a car in March. Here's how they're doing now.

WEST WARWICK − The West Warwick Police Department is reporting good news via Facebook about three young bicyclists who were struck by a car in March.

The boys were hit shortly after getting out of school on March 11 as they rode their bikes at the intersection of West Warwick Avenue and Main Street, the police said previously.

The boys, two of them 12 and one 13, were taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in ambulances; two of them suffered serious injuries, the police said at the time.

Their bicycles were damaged or destroyed.

On Thursday morning, the police posted a photo of the three children and reported, "We are happy to announce all three boys have recovered."

The photograph shows the kids atop bicycles and wearing helmets.

"The good people at Bike Newport heard about this incident and donated new bikes to each boy, while the IPC (Injury Prevention Center) unit at Lifespan also donated new helmets," the police said in the post.

Trenna Beltrami, community police officer for the West Warwick police, said, "Obviously they were very excited to have bikes."

"There is still kindness in this world"

"It's always great to see a community come together like this and provide happiness to those involved in a previously sad incident," the police said in the post. "Thank you."

In the comment section Facebook user Ashley Marie Fleetwood wrote, "As the mom to one of those Boys I want to thank everyone for all their support these boys received during this time. It’s amazing that there is still kindness in this world and (people) who care we appreciate all the love and support and specially thankful for the new bikes for these boys."

The driver of the car stayed a the scene and cooperated with the investigation, the police said in March. Information was not immediately available Thursday morning on whether the driver was cited.
