Things to do this weekend: Rock, country, a sax quartet and Arenacross

Wichita is offering a diverse array of activities this weekend, from a much anticipated annual church dinner to a motocross event to a saxophone concert. Here’s a look at some of the weekend’s most promising entertainment options:

Celebrate Kansas Day

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Great Plains Nature Center, 6232 E. 29th St.

Celebrate Kansas Day this weekend at the Great Plains Nature Center with a self-guided event scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. (Kansas Day is actually on Sunday.) It will happen inside the center and will include exhibits and activities that pay homage to Kansas’ symbols and history. Among the activities will be Kansas trivia and crafts. Admission is free.

Chicken Noodle weekend

11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1356 N. Broadway

The 2023 installment of the long-running Chicken Noodle Dinner at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1356 N. Broadway, happens this weekend. The event, now in its 76th year, is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and for the second consecutive year, meals will be served only to drive-through customers. People will stay in their cars to place orders for their $12 meals, which include a big serving of homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh-cut coleslaw and dessert. People can pay on the spot with cash, check or credit card or get tickets in advance by calling the church office at 316-267-3263. A la carte items also will be available.

Nirvana tribute

7:30 p.m. Saturday, The Cotillion 11120 W. Kellogg

Smells Like Nirvana, a tribute band that will perform songs from Nirvana’s albums Nevermind, In Utero, Bleach and more, will be at The Cotillion on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. concert. Doors for the show open at 7 p.m., and the opening acts will be Dead Original and For The Birds. Tickets are $17 at thecotillion.com

Arenacross Outlaws

7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Hartman Arena, 8151 N. Hartman Arena Drive

Arenacross Outlaws will fill Hartman Arena this weekend with lasers, fireworks, motorcycles and lots of dirt. The event happens on Friday and Saturday and starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $26 for adults, $21 for children 3-12 and free for children 2 and under.

Sax quartet

5:30 p.m. Sunday, Wichita Art Museum, 1400 Museum Blvd.

The Chamber Music Society of Wichita Concert Series continues on Sunday at the Wichita Art Museum with the Ancia Saxophone Quartet. The show starts at 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s great hall and is $25 for WAM members, $30 for members of the public at cmswichita.org/concerts. It starts at 5:30 p.m., though a pre-concert talk starts at 5 p.m. The event will include a cash bar.

Josh Meloy at Wave

8 p.m. Saturday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.

Oklahoma native Josh Meloy will be at Wichita’s Wave venue on Saturday for an 7 p.m. concert. Meloy, a country singer, is best known for songs like “Met the Devil in Oklahoma” and “You Here Tonight.” Doors open at 6 p.m., then opening act Blaine Bailey will warm up the crowd. Tickets are $15 at waveict.com
