Things to do: Halloween in Columbia, shrimp boils, Connect 4, fall festivals and more

Grab your best costume and start the Halloween holiday early with a whole slew of scary events, as well as shrimp boils, fall festivals, game tournaments and more.

1. Halloween events in Columbia

Halloween starts early this weekend in Mule Town, with several festive events leading up to Tuesday's Haunting in the District.

Friday night's events will kick off with Classic Cars & Candy Bars at United Farm & Home Co-op, 975 Riverview Lane, starting at 2 p.m. The event will include pumpkin painting, fall games, food trucks and more. The car show and trunk-or-treat will start at 5 p.m.

Columbia Fire & Rescue will host another Car Seat Checks event starting at 3 p.m. Friday, which will also include free candy for the kids. The event will take place at Fire Station No. 1, 1000 S. Garden St., where certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians could also treat you to a free car seat.

Bring the kids to Columbia Motor Alley at the corner of East 7th and Woodland Streets for a special Halloween Cruise-in Trunk-or-Treat from 6-10 p.m. Friday. Zacharia Malachi & The Nashville Counts will also perform, with Nash Taps serving craft beverages.

Rose Hill Cemetery, 219 Cemetery Street, will also host Haunted Night in Columbia starting at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The ghost tour will include paranormal investigations, ghost hunts and more. Tickets are $28.52 and are available at www.EventBrite.com.

Dress up and head to The Tilted Mule, 102 Depot St., for its Tilted Halloween Party starting at 7 p.m. Friday. Prizes will be awarded for best, funniest and spookiest costume. And being a Friday, Tilted Karaoke will be going all night.

On Saturday, Asgard Brewing Co. & Taproom, 104 E. 5th St., will host its Halloween Dance & Costume Party featuring DJ Garlic from 8-11 p.m.

In Mt. Pleasant, Twisted Copper Brewing Company, 121 S. Main St., will host its second annual Halloween Party & Costume Contest starting at 6 p.m. Saturday. Happy hour will be from 2-5 p.m. There will also be free woodfired pizza buffet available from 6-8 p.m.

On Sunday, Maury Hills Church, 101 Unity Drive, will host its Not So Scary Halloween Party starting at 5 p.m. There will be a trunk-or-treat featuring more than 60 cars, free pizza and live music.

2. Maury County Fire annual Shrimp Boil Fundraiser

The annual Maury County Fire Department Shrimp Boil fundraiser will take place Saturday at MCFD Station 12, which will include shrimp plates, live music and more.

The Maury County Fire Department wants to fill your plate for the organization's annual Shrimp Boil Fundraiser this weekend.

The fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MCFD Station 12, 1180 Carters Creek Pike. This year's goal is to raise $10,000 to purchase essential equipment for the department's firefighters.

In addition to a delicious shrimp boil plate, there will also be firefighter demonstrations, touch-a-truck and live music from Kith and Kin.

3. Connect 4 for Charity at Woodland Park

The first TriStar Elite Realty Connect 4 for Charity tournament will take place Saturday at Woodland Park's Rotary Shelter, with a goal to raise $5,000 for Center of Hope.

It's always a pleasure when a childhood favorite can also be used to raise money for a worthy cause.

TriStar Elite Realty will present the inaugural Connect 4 Tournament at Woodland Park with a goal to raise $5,000 for Center of Hope's ongoing efforts to support domestic violence and sexual abuse victims in need.

The tournament will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rotary Shelter located at Woodland Park, 1201 Confederate Drive. Entry fee is $25 per player, which includes an event T-shirt and can be registered online at EventGroove.com.

In addition to the tournament, the event will also feature food vendors, a bouncy house obstacle course and face painting.

4. Highland Realm Blueberry Farm Fall Festival

Highland Realm Blueberry Farm will host its first Fall Festival this weekend, featuring hay rides, food trucks, live music, a fall flavors baking contest and more for all ages.

One of the great treats of the fall season is visiting a local farm for an afternoon of fun, food and taking in the scenery.

Highland Realm Blueberry Farm, 4443 Hampshire Pike, will celebrate its first Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Entry is $10 per vehicle. Guests will enjoy multiple local vendors, live music, as well as a Kids & Canines costume contest.

Other activities will include hay rides, food trucks, inflatables and a fall flavored baking contest with prizes.

5. Live entertainment

The Mulehouse, 812 S. High St., will host its Halloween dance party featuring 80s tribute band MIXTAPE starting at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $35-$40 and are available at www.TheMulehouse.com.

Los Swamp Monsters will perform at The Rebel Bar and Grill, 307 Riverside Drive, at 7 p.m. Friday. The show will also be part of The Rebel's Halloween Bash, which includes a $25 buffet and two drink or beer tickets. $100 cash for best costume will be awarded at 9 p.m.

The Bottom Dollar Band will perform at The Boondox, 3543 Highway 431, as part of the venue's Halloween Costume Party starting at 8 p.m. Costume judging will start at 9 p.m.
