Come to the National Trail Raceway to enjoy the Hillbilly Nationals Demo Derby Drag Race. It's similar to a regular drag race except the cars must hit at least twice after the 100-foot mark and before the 1/8th mile before crossing the finish line. What could go wrong? Racer gates open at 2 p.m., spectator gates open at 3 p.m., with racing scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $15 per person when purchased online, or $20 at the gate, with kids under age 11 free. Those wishing to race can do so for a $40 entry fee. National Public Garden Day

Spend the afternoon wandering the gorgeous grounds of Mission Oaks Gardens, a part of the Muskingum Valley Park District, all while celebrating National Public Garden Day. Numerous vendors will be on-site including Carrie Turner doing Reiki, Happy Flat Studio, the Muskingum County Library System, Shiny Sleek and Simple and more. If you're in the mood to add to your garden, the annual plant sale will also be held at the gardens. Browse more than 30 varieties of plants for sale including wild strawberries, spotted bee balm, blue sage, partridge peas and more. The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Mission Oaks Gardens is located at 424 Hunter Ave. in Zanesville.

Comedy show

Laugh until you cry at the Secrest Auditorium as it will host ZaneY Laughs. Grab a seat and relax as you hear stand-up comedians Rob Allen and Tanc With a C. According to the Secrest website, "Rob is a veteran comedian of 28 years. Plenty of original comedic stories, one-liners and thoughts run amuck throughout his performance. Tanc With a C is a stand-up comedian who believes in giving people an experience that they won't forget." Pizza and light refreshments will be available for purchase. The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, May 17. This is a 21+ event. Tickets are $10 or buy a table for six for $50 by visiting www.secrestauditorium.com.

Luncheon and fashion show

Gather your gals and enjoy a fashionable afternoon benefitting the Bethel Community Center. Guests can enjoy tea, light refreshments, and a fashion show by a local boutique. Adding to the fun will be a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing. Tickets for the event are $15 per person, with a limited number of tickets available. To purchase tickets call 740-297-4795. Farmers market

Grab your reusable shopping bags and head to the Blue Ribbon Farmers Market. The market will be held weekly on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon through Sept. 28.
