This weekend sip on some craft brews for a good cause, pipe lovers can gather at Briarworks, stroll the Polk Home gardens or take part in an interactive murder mystery.

1. Winterfest Beer Blast for Columbia CARES

This weekend invites lovers of good craft brews to join together for Columbia's annual Winterfest Beer Blast.

The yearly beer fest, which starts at 6 p.m. Friday, will feature many local breweries, regional distributers and even a few home brewers all set up for samples and tastings, with all proceeds benefiting Columbia CARES.

Columbia CARES is a nonprofit which offers care to those living with HIV and AIDS, not only serving Columbia, but patients within the Mid-South Tennessee region.

Tickets are $35 per person, and is 21-and-up, taking place at The Factory at Columbia, 101 N. James M. Campbell Blvd.

2. Muletown Pipe Show at Briarworks

Briarworks will host its annual Muletown Pipe Show all weekend long, with pipe artists, vendors and food trucks Friday through Sunday.

As one of the only cities with its own pipe factory in the nation, Briarworks will celebrate pipe life with an all-weekend long Pipe Show this week.

The Muletown Pipe Show will kick off starting at 9 a.m. Friday and will continue through Sunday, featuring multiple pipe artists, tobacco enthusiasts and a whole lot more.

There will also be many food trucks and other vendors setup every day of the festival.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, stop by Briarworks at 511 N. Main St. or call (931) 223-8985.

3. Cafe Murder at Building Block

The Building Block School for the Arts will host a special interactive Cafe Murder mystery evening, with two performances Friday and Saturday.

The Building Block School for the Arts, 1309 S. Main St., invites guests for a night of murder and mystery this weekend.

The arts school will host a special Cafe Murder starting at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, which will be an interactive dining and mystery-solving soiree.

Due to limited seating, $10 tickets will only be available online at www.BuildingBlockArts.com.

4. Polk Home back garden overhaul

One of the great pleasures of visiting the historic James. K. Polk Home & Museum is its gardens, especially this time of year.

However, some of its back gardens are in need of work and are seeking volunteers for a clearing project this Saturday.

The Polk Home wishes to plant about 30 three-gallon boxwoods, gardenias and azaleas, as well as spread mulch.

The project will start at 9 a.m. Saturday and will likely wrap up around noon. Volunteers are asked to bring any kind of gardening tools available, such as shoves, rakes and wheelbarrows.

The Polk Home is located at 303 W. 7th St., and while you are there pay a visit to the James and Sarah Polk sculptures located across the street, which were created by local artist Jennifer Grisham.

5. Live entertainment

Soul Sacrifice: A Santana Tribute will perform at The Mulehouse, 812 S. High St., starting at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets range from $20-$25 and are available at www.TheMulehouse.com.

Ella & Blaine will perform at Grinder's Switch Winery, 510 N. Garden St., starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Def Leprechaun Band will perform at McCreary's Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

Anthony Smith will perform at The Mulehouse, 812 S. High St., starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets range from $20-$25 and are available at www.TheMulehouse.com.

Roland Justice will perform at Twisted Copper Brewing Company, 121 S. Main St. in Mt. Pleasant, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Stevierock will perform at The Tilted Mule, 102 Depot St., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Tim Turner Band will perform at McCreary's Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

New Binge will perform at Ember's Tavern & Grille, 2513 Hospitality Drive, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Aaron Sizemore Band will perform at The Rebel Bar & Grill, 307 Riverside Drive, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday.
