They've known each other since preschool. Now, this pair fights for a PIAA title

WARRINGTON — When asked about his pair of starting inside linebackers, Central Bucks South head coach Tom Hetrick lets out a laugh.

"You hear stories about kids first playing football together in the youth leagues," Hetrick said. "But those two go back further than that. They've been friends for just about all of their lives and they're also both really good football players."

Seniors Sean Moskowitz and Adam Oscar are two stalwarts on a stingy defense that has helped the Titans win their first PIAA District One Class 6A title with a PIAA semifinal game against Saint Joseph's Prep up next on Saturday at North Penn at 1 p.m.

"We went to preschool together," said Moskowitz, a two-time Suburban One League National Conference first-team pick. "We were probably 2 or 3 the first time we met, and we've been friends ever since. It's been a long time."

CB South linebackers have a history

The two went to the same Mill Creek Elementary School and Unami Middle School together, but playing football came at different times.

"I didn't start playing football until fifth grade," Oscar said. "Sean started a couple years before I did.

"I played soccer when I was younger, but decided to give football a try and I'm really glad I did. It's the greatest sport out there. I had friends, like Sean, and my brother (Adam), who played football and I wanted to give it a try."

They were Warrington Warriors together in Pop Warner ball, then teammates at Unami and kept it going at South.

CB South benefits from life-long friends

Moskowitz did get a "varsity jump" on Oscar as he earned a starting role at inside linebacker near the end of their sophomore season. It took until this year for the two to be sharing the field together full time.

"Adam had a really good linebacker in (then senior) Colin Kelly ahead of him last season," Hetrick said. "But we knew Adam was going to be able to step in this season and do a great job and that's just what he's done.

"They both have about 95 tackles and complement each other so well. They understand the position and know what they have to do. We tell them it's not always about making the tackle, it's about being in the right place all the time and making things fit together and they both do that really well."

Will CB South get a storybook ending?

For the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Moskowitz, seeing his longtime buddy on the field next to him again has made what has been a memorable senior season even better.

"It's really unbelievable when you think about it," said Moskowitz, who hopes to keep playing football in college.

"Both of us starting at inside linebacker has been really cool."

The 5-11, 205-pound Oscar, who played special teams and also saw spot duty at linebacker last season, simply continued to work in order to earn his full-time slot.

"We've had really good defenses in the past and it's not easy to start," Oscar said. "I just tried to make the most of my opportunity and to have Sean out there has been great. It's funny how things work out.

"We've been friends for so long and to be able to do this on the football field in our senior year has been a lot of fun."
