A popular Columbia taco restaurant will close one of its locations.

Moctezuma Taqueria said in a Thursday Instagram post that its restaurant at 4341 Fort Jackson Blvd. would be closing. The last day is set to be Friday, Jan. 27.

Moctezuma’s original location at 506 Beltline Blvd. remains open. The company also continues to operate a food truck.

“Since opening our second Moctezuma location in 2019 we have enjoyed serving our customers at two locations,” Moctezuma posted on Instagram. “Due to circumstances beyond our control we will have to close our Fort Jackson location, however, we will continue to serve our loyal customers at our original location on Beltline Blvd. and our food truck is also still available to serve our customers’ needs.

“Thank you all for your loyalty, love & support and we look forward to continuing to serve you at our 506 Beltline Blvd Moctezuma original location.”

While the restaurant didn’t list the circumstance behind its closure, preliminary paperwork filed with the city indicates that the construction of a veterinarian clinic is planned for the Fort Jackson Boulevard property where the small shopping center that includes Moctezuma sits. A few other businesses, including a bakery and a frame shop, have moved out of that shopping center in recent months.
