Thank Goodness, Eddy Gordo Is Coming To Tekken 8

Eddy Gordo Tekken 8 teaser

Tekken 8 is set to be released next week, and we’ve already seen the full launch roster for the game, but one fan favorite character was sadly missing. Now, publisher Bandai Namco has revealed the first DLC character coming to the game post-launch, and it’s the one and only Eddy Gordo.

Bandai Namco released a new trailer for Tekken 8 yesterday, and while it’s mostly just the game’s opening movie, the end of the video does reveal that a bunch of characters are coming after the game’s launch, starting with Eddy Gordo, who sports a brand-new look. The first ‘season’ of content looks like it’s set to be released gradually over the course of this year.

The first character to be added to the game is Eddy Gordo, the fan-favorite capoeira fighter who’s been in every game since Tekken 3, all the way back in 1997. Eddy is set to be added to the game sometime in the Spring, with subsequent characters being added in Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Given Bandai is explicitly calling this ‘season 1,’ we imagine there will be a few more characters in the future, too.

Tekken 8 is the last of the big fighting games to get a new entry in the current generation, after Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mortal Kombat 1, and Street Fighter 6. It’s honestly a bit of a golden age of fighting games right now because of these releases, as well as games like Guilty Gear Strive, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and the upcoming Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, a new game in the Tenkaichi Budokai series.

The new entry in the Tekken series adds a new system called Heat, which changes the properties of some moves and allows the recovery of HP. That’s on top of a host of visual and gameplay improvements, all of which fans are pretty excited about.

Tekken 8 is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 26, 2024.
