Texas woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from Richmond credit union

RICHMOND, Ind. — A Texas woman has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a Richmond credit union.

Theresa Gard, 52, — of Mesquite, about 14 miles east of Dallas — in recent days was charged in Wayne Superior Court 1 with five counts of fraud, a Level 6 felony carrying up to 30 months in prison.

According to an affidavit, Gard — described as "an older white female with pink hair, using a cane" — last October withdrew $20,000 from the account of another woman at 3Rivers Federal Credit Union.

The thefts allegedly took place at two of the credit union's branches in Richmond.

According to Richmond police, Gard — using a fake passport card in the victim's name — withdrew $9,600 from the account, and obtained a check for $10,000, at the 3Rivers branch on South Seventh Street last Oct. 13.

She then allegedly went to the 3Rivers branch on South 37th Street and withdrew an additional $2,922 in cash, and obtained another check for $9,000.

Her attempt to cash one of the checks then failed, despite her use of bogus Arizona driver's license in still another woman's name.

According to the affidavit, Gard also provided a fingerprint during one of her transactions, which were also captured on surveillance video.

Other surveillance cameras outside the credit union reportedly captured an image of Gard emerging from a Nissan Rogue, and that vehicle's license plate.

Local investigators learned Gard had been accused of committing similar crimes in two cities in Minnesota.

Court documents reflect the Richmond credit union compensated the victim for the stolen funds.

A warrant was issued for Gard's arrest last week. When apprehended, she will be held under a $20,000 bond.

In a separate Wayne Superior Court 1 case, the Texas woman was charged Tuesday with a seventh count of fraud, also stemming from her alleged activities last Oct. 13.
