Texas ties for second as the state with the most Fortune 500 companies: See list

California has claimed its spot as the state with the most Fortune 500 companies — a title previously held by Texas.

Boasting 57 Fortune 500 companies, this is the first time since 2014 that the Golden State has topped the list, according to Fortune. Texas and New York tie for second, both with 52 companies.

Low taxes and cost of living, combined with loose regulatory oversight, have made Texas attractive to large companies. Tesla and pharmaceutical company McKesson claim the state for their headquarters.
