Texas ties a school record as it blasts six homers in a Tuesday takedown of UT Arlington

With Oklahoma on deck, Texas took care of the task at hand on Tuesday night.

Powered by a record-tying six home runs, Texas rolled to an 11-0 win over UT Arlington at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday night. The blowout by the Longhorns was recorded without head coach David Pierce, who was serving the first game of a two-game suspension.

Texas is now 25-17 this season.

"I'm telling you the energy level with our guys has been good and the work ethic and the energy that they're putting into their work has been outstanding the past couple days," UT assistant coach Steve Rodriguez said. "Being able to come out and do what we did from the pitching side and the hitting side today is a good sign for this weekend."

Ahead of Tuesday night, Texas was just 2-3 in its last five midweek games. Those three defeats included a 4-1 loss to A&M-Corpus Christi on March 26 and a debacle last week against UTRGV.

This Tuesday was not as terrible for Texas. The Longhorns held a 5-0 lead over UTA (17-24) by the end of the third inning as Max Belyeu homered both into the Yeti Yard and over the right field fence in his first two at-bats. Those were the 13th and 14th blasts of the season for Belyeu, who last month became the eighth player in UT's entire history to record a three-homer game.

Belyeu was temporarily tied for the team lead in homers, but Jalin Flores hammered his 15th of the season in the fourth inning. Porter Brown, Jared Thomas and Will Gasparino also homered on Tuesday night.

This marked the fifth time that Texas has homered six times in a single game. That school record was originally established in a 1953 home game at Clark Field against Baylor and later matched during trips to Houston, Nebraska and Missouri in 1984, 1997 and 1998.

"It was fun to say the least. It was just cool seeing everybody's success," Belyeu said.

Texas now turns its attention to this weekend's road trip to Oklahoma. Due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and the relocation of the Red River Rivalry series to Arlington's Globe Life Field in 2022, the Longhorns have not visited Norman since 2018.

With an 11-7 mark in Big 12 play, Texas is locked in a three-way tie for second place in the Big 12 standings. Oklahoma (25-14, 14-4) holds a three-game lead over UT, West Virginia and Oklahoma State.
