Several Texas counties saw severe weather Tuesday night, and some can expect more Wednesday.

The National Weather Service began tracking a low pressure system Monday, which is expected to travel across the Gulf of Mexico and impact the entire Eastern Seaboard.

Large hail, damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes were the primary threats to the region, the weather service said. The threatening forecast led organizers of the Texas Eclipse Festival to end the celebration early Monday and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to activate emergency response resources.

All of south Texas was placed under a severe thunderstorm watch through Tuesday night into early Wednesday, according to the weather service. The highest risk of flooding was in the Texas Panhandle Tuesday night and the mid-South on Wednesday, the weather service said.

Wednesday forecast: Severe weather continues

As of 4 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service reported the low pressure system to be consolidating over south Texas. As it heads east, severe weather is forecasted to expand into the Gulf Coast, the mid-Atlantic and the Midwest regions through Wednesday.

Thunderstorms are predicted to intensify over the Arklatex region, where the states of Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas meet. Heavy rain, hail, high winds and the possibility of tornadoes can be expected tonight, the weather service reports.

The escalation of severe weather also increases the risk of tornadoes throughout the south-central U.S. After the Texas Panhandle faced flooding risks Tuesday, he mid-South region has the highest risk of flooding Wednesday.

USA Today maintains a database for power outages across the country. As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, nearly 200,000 outages had been reported.

Of those, over 150,000 outages were in Texas. It is likely that more outages will occur as severe weather continues.
