The Texas Motorplex in Ennis will host the Funny Car Chaos season opener for the third year in a row. Races get underway at the drag racing track March 16-18.

A funny car has single piece of carbon fiber or fiberglass body that fits over the chassis, driver and engine. While funny cars might not tell jokes, they do shoot across the racing strip in a straight line at speeds close to or above 300 mph.

The cars’ unconventional name can be attributed to someone simply saying the cars looked funny when they first hit the drag racing scene in the 1960s, according to Auto Week.

“We are thrilled to not just host another Funny Car Chaos event, but to continue to grow one of the most popular and exciting drag racing series in the country,” said Christie Meyer Johnson, Texas Motorplex co-owner. “Last year we had over 60 Funny Cars and we think we can attract another amazing field in March.”

Tickets are now on sale for the Funny Car Chaos season opener. General admission tickets are available, along with Champions Club which gets you admission, a meal and access to parking:

  • Thursday- General admission tickets are only available at the gate for $15 a piece.

The Funny Car Chaos stop at the Texas Motorplex kicks off the season that runs over the summer and concludes in early September.

“The Motorplex continues to rise to the top and Funny Car Chaos is proud to be a part of that,” said Chris Graves, Funny Car Chaos promoter and race director. “We’re ready to put on a show, so you know what to do, be there!”
