Texas grandmother killed protecting coworker during robbery at Cracker Barrel restaurant

A Texas woman is being described as a hero after she was killed while keeping her coworker safe during a robbery at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Texas.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 59-year-old grandmother Robin Baucom, a manager at the restaurant outside Houston in Harris County intervened when she saw a man get out of a Dodge Charger and try to steal the purse of a worker at the store who was walking from the parking lot.

Baucom rushed to open the restaurant’s doors, but the attacker got inside as well. After Baucom pushed him away from her coworker, the robber shot her in the chest.

She was rushed to a hospital but died after undergoing emergency surgery.

Baucom, who worked at the restaurant for decades, is survived by a husband, three children and three grandchildren.

“She was always trying to help wherever she was needed,” the family said in a statement to KTRK. “She is our hero and we hope she will be remembered as a hero because she lost her life trying to protect her employees and Cracker Barrel.”

At least two suspects were in the car and remain at large, police said.
