‘If Texas is gone then America is gone’ Ted Cruz speaks at Texas GOP convention
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz addressed delegates at the Texas GOP convention on Saturday afternoon, the final day of the event.
Cruz ripped the Biden administration for its foreign policy, blaming President Joe Biden for the Israel–Hamas and Russia-Ukraine wars.
“Joe Biden inherited peace and prosperity, there are now two simultaneous wars. The biggest war in Europe since World War II, and the worst war in the Middle East in 50 years,” Cruz said. “The enemies of America are celebrating because we have a weak and ineffective commander in chief.”
Cruz then spoke about the pro-Palestinian protests that have taken place on college campuses, a talking point of his speech last month in Fort Worth when he was campaigning for Cheryl Bean, who is in a Republican primary runoff for Texas House District 97.
“Take a look at our college campuses. Look at the sickness that has taken over the far left, the angry, Israel-hating, America- hating, leftist, communist idiots,” Cruz said. “Those children are repeating the lies their professors have told them. Those children are repeating the indoctrination because we’ve allowed our universities to be taken over by cultural Marxists who hate our nation and want to tear it to the ground.”
Cruz then suggested that the protests on college campuses are being paid for by the same donors of his opponent in the race for a U.S. Senate seat, U.S. Rep. Colin Allred.
Cruz spoke about his upcoming senate election and said he anticipated massive spending from Democrat donors to support Allred in hopes of flipping the senate seat
“They know if they flip Texas, they take the country. If Texas is gone, America is gone, so we’re not going to let Texas fall,” Cruz said.
Cruz bashed the party once again and said “It’s not a battle between Republican and Democrat. It’s not a battle between conservative and liberal. It’s a battle between sane and crazy.”
Unlike Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton did earlier in the week, Cruz opted not to attack Speaker of the Texas House Dade Phelan, who has faced growing calls for his outing from Texas Republicans and is currently in a runoff election against former Orange County GOP chairman David Covey.
For most of the final minutes of his speech Cruz urged those in attendance to volunteer for his campaign, donate to his campaign and subscribe to his podcast.
