Texas football defensive back Austin Jordan enters college transfer portal

Texas defensive back Austin Jordan entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, a day after fellow DB Terrence Brooks also announced his intentions to go into the portal.

Jordan will be entering his junior year after playing 13 games for Texas in 2022 and 12 games in 2023. In those seasons, Jordan had 11 total tackles, one interception and one pass defended.

At 6-foot, 206 pounds, Jordan arrived on the 40-acres from Denton Ryan High School rated by 247sports as a four-star recruit. He was never able to find a consistent role with the Longhorns and with him in the portal, Texas is now at 82 scholarships, three below the FBS max of 85.

Texas now must find secondary players to replace Jordan, Brooks and potential NFL draftee Ryan Watts before the 2024 season kicks off with a home game against Colorado State on Aug. 31. One potential option is Colorado DB Cormani McClain, who has reportedly heard from Texas since he's entered the portal.
