Texas firefighter found dead in Cancun during anniversary trip with wife

The death of a North Texas firefighter who was staying at a hotel in Cancun, Mexico, has left his family heartbroken, according to local media and posts by his father-in-law.

Elijah Snow, a firefighter in the city of Arlington, was found dead in Cancun during a recent trip with his wife for their 10th anniversary, Dallas-Fort Worth news station KXAS reported Thursday, citing the fire station.

The TV outlet did not specify which day Snow died, but reported he decided not to join his wife when she left a hotel bar and went back to their room. She reportedly realized he hadn’t come back after waking up at 4 a.m.

Circumstances surrounding Snow’s death have not been released by authorities.

“Our family has been struck with tragedy we are heartbroken with the loss of our son in law Elijah Snow,” his father-in-law wrote in a Facebook post. “Please respect my families (sic) privacy.”

Snow had two children. An online charitable fund to support his family was shared by the Arlington Professional Fire Fighters labor group.

“Please join us in continuous prayers for the family,” the group wrote on Facebook.

Snow was a firefighter for eight years. His father was also a firefighter who died in 1985 in the line of duty, according to KXAS.

Arlington is located about 15 miles east of Fort Worth and about 21 miles west of Dallas.
