Terry Bowden Confirms Father’s Terminal Illness Diagnosis

Louisiana-Monroe head coach Terry Bowden has shed more light on his legendary father Bobby Bowden’s terminal illness diagnosis.

On Wednesday, Bobby Bowden announced he has been diagnosed with a terminal condition. The Hall of Fame head coach told the Tallahassee Democrat he is “at peace.”

“I’ve always tried to serve God’s purpose for my life, on and off the field, and I am prepared for what is to come,” Bowden said in a statement. “My wife Ann and our family have been life’s greatest blessing.”

In an interview with KTVE, Terry Bowden disclosed that the disease his father is dealing with is pancreatic cancer and that the family has known about the diagnosis for “about 10 days.”

“We know when you have pancreatic cancer, which is what that disease is, pancreatic cancer. You’re probably talking months, not years,” Terry Bowden said. “So, we know that. We just think we have some more good days. We’re going to enjoy those together.”

Terry also said his father still “sounds great” when he is up but pleaded with the public and media to allow the two-time national champion time to rest.

“Please give him some time, give the family time. It’s much about him getting rest,” Terry Bowden said.

Bobby Bowden, whos 377 career wins place him fourth all-time in college football history, was the head coach at West Virginia from 1970-75 before taking over at Florida State in 1976. He stayed in Tallahassee until 2009.

In that time, Bowden posted a 304-97-4 overall record, winning a pair of national titles and 12 ACC Championships. he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
