Tennis star Pete Sampras, 52, shared a sad update about the health of his wife, The Wedding Planner actress Bridgette Wilson, 50, and the struggles they've faced this last year.

In an official statement shared on X via the ATP Tour, Sampras started by saying, "As most have come to know, I am a pretty quiet and private person. However, this past year has been an exceptionally challenging time for my family, and I have decided to share what's been going on."

"Last December, my wife, Bridgette, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Since then, she has had major surgery, pushed through chemotherapy, and continues with targeted maintenance therapy," he went on.

Sampras, who shares two sons, Christian, 20, and Ryan, 18, with Wilson, continued, elaborating on the entire family's journey through her sickness and recovery.

He wrote, "It is hard to watch someone you love go through a challenge like this. However, seeing our boys step up and be such strong supporters of Bridgette, myself, and each other has been amazing. Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mom and wife through it all has been inspiring."

The former world No. 1 tennis player ended his statement by noting that part of his decision to share the news was to ask for support from the public, saying, "I have also learned that it is very hard to reach for support when something is simply too hard to talk about. With that said, I am humbly asking for good thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to thrive on her healing journey."

Many fellow tennis pros commented on the statement in support of Sampras and his family, with Chanda Rubin writing, "Sending love and prayers to you, Bridgette, and your entire family," as Andy Murray said, "All the best to your wife and your family Pete."

Sampras, who had an outstanding career and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2007, met Wilson, known for roles in Billy Madison, Mortal Kombat and more, in 1999. They got married the next year, welcoming their first son in 2002, while their youngest followed in 2005.
