Recap: Tennessee Titans cough up late lead again in another home loss

The Tennessee Titans will spend their Christmas Eve in a battle against the Seattle Seahawks, even if a trip to the NFL playoffs is officially out of the question.

The Titans (5-9) host the Seahawks (7-7) at Nissan Stadium on Sunday (noon, CBS), one week after being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Quarterback Will Levis (ankle) is one of six Titans who are listed as questionable. In the event Levis can't play, veteran Ryan Tannehill will start.

The Titans also have eight players who have been ruled out because of injuries. The list includes key defensive starters like defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, linebacker Luke Gifford and safeties K'Von Wallace and Amani Hooker, the last of whom was put on injured reserve with a knee injury Friday.

Tennessee Titans score vs. Seattle Seahawks: Live NFL updates

FINAL: Seahawks 20, Titans 17

Disastrous final drive by Ryan Tannehill ends the game

Ryan Tannehill completes a couple passes to move the Titans to midfield, but takes a sack with 20 seconds left. Tennessee has no timeouts. And after the offense gets set, Tannehill throws a short pass to Colton Dowell, who can't out of bounds. That'll do it. Seahawks win.

For a veteran QB with so much experience, that's a string of several major errors.

Seahawks 20, Titans 17, 57 seconds left fourth quarter: Seahawks take the lead

A Colby Parkinson 5-yard touchdown pass with Tre Avery in coverage puts the Seahawks ahead with less than a minute left. Titans defense struggled to cover the Seahawks receivers during that drive. Tennessee's defense again can't get the required stop to secure a victory.

PAT good. Seattle leads 20-17. Geno Smith has 227 yards and two touchdowns.

Titans 17, Seahawks 13, 3:21 left fourth quarter: Derrick Henry go-ahead TD run

Derrick Henry runs through a tackle for a 2-yard touchdown run to give the Titans a 17-13 lead. PAT good.

Excellent drive for the Titans offense. Treylon Burks made a nice toe-tap catch for 13 yards to get the drive going, and a Seahawks pass interference penalty on third down in Seattle territory extended the possession.

15 plays, 75 yards. Titans are a defensive stop away from a win.

Henry up to 88 yards on 19 carries and the TD.

Seahawks 13, Titans 10, 12:10 left fourth quarter: Seahawks go 96 yards, and DK Metcalf gives Seattle the lead

Seattle goes 96 yards in 10 plays, capped off by a DK Metcalf 11-yard touchdown catch. Metcalf was initially ruled as not getting his feet down with possession, but a Pete Carroll challenge produces a reversal.

PAT good. Seahawks lead 13-10. Titans offense needs a scoring drive.

Titans 10, Seahawks 6, 9:53 left third quarter: Seattle settles for FG to open second half

Seattle moves down the field after a decent kickoff return and a personal foul penalty on the Titans, but DK Metcalf drops a possible TD (or first down conversion) on 3rd and long.

Jason Myers is good from 27 yards out. Titans lead 10-6.

Geno Smith has 104 passing yards today. Titans defense playing well from front to back.

HALFTIME: Titans 10, Seahawks 3

The Seahawks offense got into Titans territory, but the Titans pass rush forced a couple poor Geno Smith passes and a punt.

The Titans offense has had a clean game with no turnovers, and Derrick Henry is running well. That's a familiar formula.

Titans 10, Seahawks 3, 3:18 left second quarter: Derrick Henry running well, Titans OL not protecting Tannehill

Titans drive ends with a sack by former Titans DL Mario Edwards, who used up Peter Skoronski in the interior.

Nick Folk's 33-yard field goal is good. Titans lead 10-3.

Big play in the drive was a Ryan Tannehill 23-yard scramble on third and long.

Derrick Henry has been much better today than last week, up to 58 rushing yards on 8 carries.

Titans 7, Seahawks 0, 14:14 left second quarter: Derrick Henry trying out at QB?

On a designed play, Derrick Henry throws to a wide open Chig Okonkwo for a 12-yard touchdown. Henry often gets those passing opportunities inside the 5-yard line, but that one comes from the 12.

PAT good. Titans lead 7-0.

That is Okonkwo's first TD catch of the season.

End of the first quarter: Titans 0, Seahawks 0

Titans offense is driving as the first quarter ends, with Derrick Henry looking solid early (5 carries, 36 yards). Ryan Tannehill is 3-of-8 for 20 yards.

Titans defense has two sacks, including a drive-ender by Denico Autry on third down in the previous drive.

Titans defense holds on opening drive

Jake Bobo is ruled to not catch a third down pass from Geno Smith. It looked close on review, and Pete Carroll challenges the play. Ruling on the field stood. Seahawks will punt in Titans territory.

Ryan Tannehill sacked on third down on opening drive

Jarran Reed sacks Ryan Tannehill on third down, and Tannehill falls on the football after being stripped. Titans OL does not have a good opening drive. Three and out.

Will Levis out, Ryan Tannehill officially the starting QB for Titans vs. Seahawks

Will Levis (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game, which means Ryan Tannehill will start on Sunday against Seattle.

The Titans will also be without starting guard Daniel Brunskill and tight end Trevon Wesco. Defensive backs Sean Murphy-Bunting and K'Von Wallace will be out on the defensive side of the ball.

The full Titans inactives:

  • QB Will Levis

  • CB Sean Murphy-Bunting

  • DL TK McLendon

  • WR Kyle Philips

  • S K'Von Wallace

  • TE Trevon Wesco

  • OL Daniel Brunskill
