Recap: Tennessee Titans disappointing season continues with loss at Jaguars

The Tennessee Titans will try to score their first AFC South win of the 2023 season on Sunday in a matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Titans (3-6) visit the Jaguars (6-3) at EverBank Stadium on Sunday (noon, CBS). Tennessee has lost four of its past five games, including two in a row, and is three games behind the Jaguars at the bottom of the division standings.

Jacksonville is coming off a 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers but had won five in a row before that, and go into Sunday with the third-best record in the AFC.

Rookie Will Levis, making his fourth start, has not thrown a touchdown since his debut on Oct. 29. Veteran Ryan Tannehill is expected to return as the backup for the first time since a high ankle sprain sidelined him on Oct. 15, but coach Mike Vrabel said that may change closer to kickoff.

Postgame coverage

GENTRY ESTES: If this isn't rock-bottom for Tennessee Titans, I shudder to think what's next

INSTANT ANALYSIS: Tennessee Titans suffer 34-14 beatdown to Jacksonville Jaguars in 9th straight road loss

Fourth quarter

FINAL: Jaguars 34, Titans 14

Jaguars move to 7-3, Titans down to 3-7. This Titans season is about the future now.

Jeffery Simmons gets first career TD catch

4:28 left: A good drive ends with a Levis touchdown pass to...Jeffery Simmons in a goal-to-go situation. Simmons was lined up as a fullback.

PAT good. Jaguars 34, Titans 14

Trevor Lawrence's second rushing touchdown today puts the game away

7:28 left: Trevor Lawrence wins another race to the pylon. PAT good.

Jaguars 34, Titans 7

Lawrence has two rushing and two passing touchdowns today.

12:54 left: Eric Garror fumbles on a punt return and the Jaguars recover.

Third quarter

Titans finally score on reverse flea flicker

End of the third quarter: After the drive is extended by a roughing the passer penalty, a reverse flea flicker that started with Derrick Henry in the wildcat ends with Levis finding DeAndre Hopkins for a 43-yard touchdown.

PAT good. Jaguars 27, Titans 7

Jaguars deliver knockout blow with Calvin Ridley touchdown

3:22 left: Lawrence finds Calvin Ridley wide open for a 20-yard touchdown. Jaguars were looking for the knockout blow on that drive and got it. PAT good.

Jaguars 27, Titans 0

Trevor Lawrence is 18-of-25 for 233 yards and two touchdowns today. Jaguars outgaining Titans 330-96.

7:31 left: Tyjae Spears is a yard short on 3rd and long. Good tackling by the Jaguars defense.

Will Levis is 8-of-12 for 51 yards, while Derrick Henry has 8 carries for 16 yards. Another bad day. Tennessee has managed just five first downs in six drives.

Trevor Lawrence TD run gives Jaguars a 20-0 lead to start second half

9:12 left: Trevor Lawrence outraces Jeffery Simmons to the pylon for a 9-yard TD run. PAT good.

Jaguars 20, Titans 0

Tennessee has no response out of the locker room. Mike Vrabel's team looks beaten and is playing bad football.

10:46 left: On 4th and 4, Lawrence scrambles and finds D'Ernest Johnson in the flat. Johnson YACs it up for a 34-yard gain. Huge play. Kristian Fulton decided to pursue Lawrence instead of sticking to Johnson. 1st and goal.

11:38 left: Jaguars timeout on 3rd and 4 from the Titans' 40-yard line. Tennessee's defense in a must-stop situation.

15:00 left: Jaguars will receive second half kickoff. Chris Hubbard is out with an elbow injury, the team announced.

Jaguars dominant in first half against Titans

HALFTIME: Jaguars 13, Titans 0

Second quarter

14 seconds left: Titans hold Jaguars to a field goal as Lawrence throws the ball away under pressure.

McManus' 25-yard field goal is good. Jaguars 13, Titans 0

35 seconds left: Jaguars OL picks up the blitz, and Lawrence finds Ridley downfield for 34 yards. Ridley beat Kristian Fulton on a go-route up the left sideline. Jaguars in the red zone.

1:15 left: Harold Landry offside on third down, and the penalty results in a first down. The penalties on third down have been detrimental to the Titans defense.

1:52 left: Chig Okonkwo is a yard short on third down. The Titans have 4th and 1 from their own 30-yard line upcoming after a timeout. Jaelyn Duncan in for Chris Hubbard for that third down play.

Tennessee will punt.

Jeffery Simmons TFL holds Jaguars to a field goal

3:19 left: Jeffery Simmons pummels Travis Etienne on third and short. What a play.

Brandon McManus' 30-yard field goal is good. Jaguars 10, Titans 0

5:00 left: Calvin Ridley end-around carry for 18 yards. Jaguars in scoring range.

5:29 left: Roger McCreary flagged for pass interference on third down for a second time today, on an underthrown ball by Lawrence. Tough play for McCreary, but the right call.

6:12 left: Harold Landry makes an excellent play on a screen pass to Travis Etienne. He's playing well this month.

9:54 left: Jaguars third-down blitz gets home. No chance for Will Levis. Sack pushes the Titans out of field goal range.

12:12 left: Kyle Philips WR screen on 3rd and 7 picks up 10.

13:53 left: Jaguars line up offside on the punt, so the Titans offense comes back out on 4th and 1. Derrick Henry follows fullback Jeffery Simmons to convert for a first down. Could be a big moment.

14:05 left: Another third down, another pressure. Levis somehow gets out of the sack but nearly throws an interception. Titans will punt.

15:00 left: Will Levis getting his left ankle re-taped during the quarter break.

First quarter

1:10 left: Levis scrambles up the middle for a first down.

Jaguars turn fumble into Calvin Ridley TD catch, early lead

2:58 left: Lawrence to Calvin Ridley for a 3-yard touchdown on a corner route. Ridley vs. Amani Hooker is not a good matchup for the Titans defense.

PAT deflected but still good.

Jaguars 7, Titans 0

6:12 left: Titans secondary struggling on the second drive. Roger McCreary's pass interference penalty on third down extends the Jaguars' drive, and Christian Kirk is wide open for a 21-yard gain. Jaguars in the red zone.

7:41 left: Levis cannot grab a high snap, and the Jaguars recover. A missed opportunity. Aaron Brewer has had some iffy snaps this season, his first NFL season as a starter at center.

8:23 left: Chris Moore gets into space on the end around for 38 yards. Nice playcall. Titans in Jacksonville territory.

9:08 left: Levis to Hopkins for 13 yards and a first down.

9:19 left: The Titans defense allows one first down but nothing else. Pass rush flushed Trevor Lawrence a couple times in the drive. Jacksonville will punt.

13:30 left: Foye Oluokun sacks Will Levis on third down. The rookie was flushed by an interior pressure before Oluokun finally got Levis down. Bad, bad, bad.

15:00 left: Titans will receive the opening kickoff. Dillon Radunz will be at left tackle. Daniel Brunskill is back into the lineup.
