Tennessee baseball vs Texas A&M prediction in 2024 College World Series: Who wins CWS final Game 1?

OMAHA, Neb. − Tennessee baseball is on college baseball's biggest stage Saturday.

The No. 1 Vols (58-12) and No. 3 Texas A&M (52-13) start the College World Series final on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. It is a best-of-three series.

Here is what to know about the Game 1 matchup:

How Tennessee beat Texas A&M in the lone meeting this season

Tennessee and Texas A&M did not play in the regular season, but met in the SEC Tournament in an elimination game. The Vols won 7-4. Texas A&M has not lost a game since, while UT has lost once against Evansville in the Knoxville Super Regional.

The pitching pair of Chris Stamos and AJ Causey were effective against the powerful Aggies. They combined for 10 strikeouts in 7⅓ innings, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks. Stamos did not allow a hit through 2⅔ innings before a third-inning homer. That was the lone hit he allowed as he struck out three and walked one. Stamos pitched a season-best 3⅓ innings.

Kavares Tears was 3-for-5 against the Aggies with four RBIs. He hit a three-run homer to break the game open in the seventh.

Tennessee's Christian Moore, Blake Burke are destroying pitching in the CWS

Tennessee baseball's Christian Moore and Blake Burke are playing like superstars in the CWS.

Moore and Burke both are 7-for-14 through three games and have combined for 11 runs with eight RBIs at the top of Tennessee's lineup.

Moore went 5-for-6 in UT's opener against Florida State while becoming the second player in history to hit for a cycle in the CWS. He has two doubles, two triples and a homer with six runs. He has three RBIs. Burke has five runs and five RBIs with a homer.

The Vols have a fresh pitching staff in the College World Series

Tennessee has not had to deviate far from its usual pitching plan in the CWS thanks to big-time starts from Drew Beam against North Carolina and Zander Sechrist against Florida State.

The Vols used six pitchers in the opener against Florida State, including Stamos and Causey. Kirby Connell and Nate Snead have thrown in relief in all three games. UT didn't use any other relievers against UNC or in its win against FSU on Wednesday.
