Ten mouthwatering restaurant specials only available during Eat Local Month in Bellingham

Eat Local Month is here and Bellingham restaurants have created special dishes from local ingredients you can enjoy for a limited time.

Eat Local Month is put on by Sustainable Connections and aims to celebrate local food and all the work that local farmers, growers and chefs put into taking it from their farm to your table through various events and educational opportunities.

During the month-long event, local restaurants will be offering special dishes made up of 50% or more local ingredients.

Here are a few mouthwatering dishes to try before they are no longer available:

Aslan Brewing Co. — Oktoberfest Bowl

Aslan Brewing Co. has created two specials for the month: an Oktoberfest Bowl and an organic pickled beet salad.

The Oktoberfest bowl is made of roasted potatoes from Flynn Farms, sauerkraut from Pangea Ferments, bratwurst, mustard cream and herbs.

Aslan Brewing Co. has two Bellingham locations. The Brewpub is open from noon to 11 p.m. daily and is located at 1330 N. Forest St. The Depot is open from 3-11 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Depot is located at 1322 N. State St.

Pure Bliss Desserts — Brown Butter Apple Tart and Creme Brulee

Pure Bliss Desserts is known for its cakes and sweets, but this local bakery has also created multiple specials for Eat Local Month.

The specials include a brown butter apple tart, creme brulee, chocolate hazelnut orange torte, blackberry creme brulee, chocolate mousse and a mixed berry crisp.

Pure Bliss Desserts is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and is located at 1424 Cornwall Ave.

Storia Cucina — Three Farm Gnocchi

Storia Cucina is a classic Italian restaurant in Bellingham that has created a gnocchi special for Eat Local Month made with ingredients from three local farms.

The dish is made of handmade ricotta gnocchi with fennel from The Crows Farm, a tomato conserva with tomatoes from Cedarville Farm and red onion from Sonder Farmstead. The gnocchi is also made with flour from Cairnspring Mills.

Storia Cucina is open from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant is at 109 Grand Ave.

Pepper Sisters — Eat Local Month Tostada

Pepper Sisters has used its southwestern style to create a special Eat Local Month tostada. The tostada features fresh produce from Joe’s Garden in Bellingham.

The grilled corn tostada includes black beans, tomatoes, sweet green beans, green and purple cabbage from Joe’s Garden, and is topped with queso fresco and poblano crema. The tostada is served with a minty cucumber rice salad on the side, made from cucumbers from Joe’s Garden.

Pepper Sisters is open from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and from 4:30-9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is located at 1055 N. State St.

Old Town Cafe — Sockeye Salmon Filet Sandwich

Old Town Cafe in downtown Bellingham has created a salmon dish for its Eat Local Month special.

The sockeye salmon filet sandwich is made of local Lummi Island Wild salmon with onions from Bright Thread Farm, tomatoes from Rabbit Fields Farm and lettuce from Joe’s Garden, served on a potato bun from Breadfarm. The sandwich is served with daily salad or soup that is also made from local ingredients from Bright Threat Farm, Jose’s, Ralph’s Greenhouse and Rabbit Fields Farm.

Old Town Cafe is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant is located at 316 W. Holly St.

New Mexico Tamale Company — Berry Bites

New Mexico Tamale Company is bringing a sweet treat to Eat Local Month, as well as a Cascadia mushroom tamale.

The tamale bites are filled with local berries and sprinkled with powdered sugar. For those wanting a savory dish, the Cascadia mushroom tamales are filled with shiitake mushrooms, roasted garlic and spinach.

New Mexico Tamale Company is open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and is located at 4151 Meridian, Suite 106.

Mallard Ice Cream — Local Berry Ice Cream

Mallard Ice Cream has created ice cream using local berries for Eat Local Month. The local berry ice cream includes raspberries and strawberries from Viva Farms and Aronia from Cloud Mountain Farm Center.

Mallard Ice Cream is open from noon to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and is located at 1323 Railroad Ave.

Keenan’s at the Pier — Burrata Caprese and King Salmon

Keenan’s at the Pier has a special appetizer and entree for Eat Local Month.

The burrata caprese is made with tomatoes from The Crow’s Farm, basil, cherry tomatoes and basil oil from Blanchard Mountain Farm, burrata and a balsamic reduction.

The king salmon entree special includes salmon from Sea to Shore Seafood Co., potatoes, asparagus, lemon zest, smoked salmon mousse and zaalouk.

Keenan’s at the Pier is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and is located inside The Chrysalis Inn & Spa in Bellingham at 804 10th St.

Elizabeth Station — Cascadia Mushroom Pizza

Elizabeth Station is serving a pizza featuring ingredients from five local businesses for Eat Local Month.

The Cascadia mushroom pizza is made with flour from Cairnsprings Mills, mozzarella cheese from Ferndale Farmstead, creme fraiche from Twin Brook Creamery, parsley and green onions from Daydream Farms and blue oyster mushrooms from Cascadia Mushrooms.

Elizabeth Station is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, but pizza is only served from noon to 9 p.m. daily. Elizabeth Station is at 1400 W. Holly St.

Bar Cicotti — Cascadia Farms Stuffed Mushrooms

Bar Cicotti is a wine and coffee bar located inside the Whatcom Museum’s Lightcatcher building, and is serving up a new dish for Eat Local Month.

The stuffed mushroom dish features mushrooms from Cascadia Mushrooms cooked with breadcrumbs, basil pesto, garlic and herbs.

Bar Cicotti is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and is located at 202 Grand Ave.
