Teen who died Wednesday in Wisconsin Rapids house fire was student at Lincoln High School

WISCONSIN RAPIDS − Officials have released the name of a 16-year-old girl killed in a fire early Wednesday morning.

Carolina Oliva, a sophomore at Lincoln High School, was trapped in a second-floor bedroom when fire broke out in her home at 511 11th St. S. At 12:18 a.m. Wednesday, a caller reported a fire at the home with Carolina trapped in a second-floor bedroom.

A GoFundMe page has been started for the Oliva family.

Carolina, known as Nina, was upstairs when her father found fire in the house and woke up her brother and sister, as well as Carolina, according to the GoFundMe page. Carolina's father, brother and sister were able to make it out of the house, but the smoke and flames were too strong, making it impossible to help Carolina out. Carolina and her puppy, Chico, died in the fire together, according to the page.

Nina was a happy, energetic, smart, and hard working girl, who was full of sass, according to the GoFundMe page. She enjoyed spending time with her best friend, two older sisters, brother, her little sister, other family members, coworkers and friends. She was saving for her first car.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
