Per NFL Net’s Ian Rapoport, a chronic knee issue “had a flare up” for Bridgewater this past week “and the team wanted to be smart about it.”

Meanwhile, receiver Trent Sherfield was added to the injury report on Sunday morning because of a toe injury. He’s questionable for Sunday’s game. [Update: He’s active].

Other inactivates will be announced at 11:32 a.m. [Update: Inactives are injured players Bridgewater, Hunter Long and River Cracraft and healthy scratches Noah Igbinoghene, Myles Gaskin and Erik Ezukanma.]

HOME DEBUTS

Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and outside linebacker Bradley Chubb earned high marks internally for their work in their Dolphins debuts, even though Chubb’s stats were modest.

Now they’re ready for their Dolphins home debuts Sunday against Cleveland (1 p.m, CBS).

Both players already feel at home.

“It’s hectic,” Chubb said of adjusting to a new team at midseason. “But it’s fun. I get to play football with a whole new group of guys that I’m learning, and I’m still figuring out. They’re still figuring me out as well.... It’s hard to pick up and move and do all this and still have success. That’s my main thing is trying to be the best me I can be out here.”

Chubb likes that Mike McDaniel is “straightforward. It’s not guessing or how does he feel about me doing this. Everything is straightforward. You know what you’re expected of. You know what you got to go out there and do on Sundays. I feel like it’s a good thing because players up front are telling me what I got to do and stuff like that. In practices, he takes care of us as well and makes sure our bodies are good. I feel like it’s a great staff. I’m just glad to be a part of this organization.”

Though Chubb was credited with one tackle, he had two pressures and defensive coordinator Josh Boyer said “I think kind of what he did for us last week was commendable. He flew back from London, flew from the West Coast out here, played 54 snaps in the game for us.

“I think he’s getting a better grasp of [the Dolphins’ defense]. He’s an extremely hard worker. Like he’s in here early, leaves late. He’s a phenomenal person, too, a charismatic individual immediately. Love everything about what he’s been since he’s been here and then obviously we’re working very hard to put him in positions that he can succeed.”

Running backs coach Eric Studesville said Wilson Jr.’s best on-field NFL skills are “effort and competitiveness. He’s intensely competitive. He came in and worked right away to get up to speed on everything. I think he’s a smart guy that runs the ball hard and can catch the ball out of the backfield. He’s got a good overall running back skill set.”

His Sunday debut against the Bears included nine runs for 51 yards (a 5.7 average) and three catches for 21 yards, including a touchdown.

“It’s been an absolute blessing,” Wilson said of the trade to Miami. “To come in and be welcomed with open arms, smiles and genuine care, I wouldn’t ask for any other situation because I feel like I’m at home.

“Mike McDaniel has been the same person since I’ve seen him in 2018 at the University of North Texas when he came down and worked me out. He’s still that same guy, and for him to be that, man, that speaks volumes to him. We live in a day and age where everybody changes when you get different statuses.”

WILSON UPDATE

▪ Cedrick Wilson Jr., given a three-year, $23 million contract 11 days before the Dolphins acquired Hill, hasn’t played 30 offensive snaps in any game this season. His per-game snap count: 28, 22, 5, 16, 15, 4, 14, 13.

He had two catches for 23 yards against Chicago, his first receptions since Oct. 9. He had been targeted just one time combined during the previous three games.

“Ced has been awesome, has handled everything like a pro, done what he needed to do,” receivers coach Wes Welker said. “Not enough good things to say [about him].”

But he hasn’t played ahead of Trent Sherfield because “Trent has played really, really well,” Welker said. “Been on top of all his assignments.”

INJURY REPORT

The Dolphins, on Friday’s injury report, listed one player out for Sunday’s game against Cleveland -- tight end Hunter Long, due to concussion protocol and illness.

Four players were listed as questionable: left tackle Terron Armstead (toe), Bridgewater (knee), tight end Tanner Conner (knee) and tackle Austin Jackson (ankle/calf). It would be surprising if Armstead doesn’t play.

On Saturday, the Dolphins signed safety Verone McKinley III to the 53-man roster and elevated tackle Kion Smith for Sunday’s game. And they added Sherfield to the injury report on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, the Browns ruled out linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (knee) and tight end David Njoku (ankle).
