Tecumseh Board of Education picks 4 to interview to be superintendent

TECUMSEH — Four candidates will interview Saturday to be the next Tecumseh Public Schools superintendent.

The school board met Tuesday with its search consultant, Rodney Green of the Michigan Association of School Boards, and selected the four candidates from 23 applicants, a news release said. The candidates are Tecumseh High School Principal Kimberly Irish, East Jackson Community Schools Superintendent Stephen Doerr, Milan High School Principal Aaron Shinn and Matt Hilton, executive director for elementary education in Ann Arbor.

Current Superintendent Rick Hilderley is planning to retire at the end of this school year. Hilderley's last day in the office is expected to be June 7. He will then use up his remaining vacation time until his contract ends June 30.

The board plans to appoint a new superintendent to begin on or about June 1.

The interviews will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Tecumseh High School media center. The public is invited to attend. Each interview is anticipated to take about one hour, with a lunch break scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Following the interviews, the board will determine the candidates who will proceed to a second round of interviews.

The second round is planned for Tuesday, March 19, with an “open house” to introduce the candidates to staff and community at 4 p.m. prior to interviews that will begin at 6 p.m.

People attending Saturday's interviews should plan to park in the parking lot off Brown Street, as a youth wrestling tournament will be taking place in the gym and parking is expected to be at a premium in the lots on the south end of the high school.
