Teams dodged the rain like Frogger on Thursday, but Tri-Valley softball survived: Roundup

DRESDEN — Kylan Brock drove in six runs for the Scotties, who took advantage of 16 walks in a 23-0 mercy of visiting Galloway Westland on Thursday in a Division I first-round district game at Kenny Wolford Park.

Brock had two doubles and four singles as the Scotties scored 22 runs in the first three innings. Caity Journey drove in three runs with a double and two singles, Paiton Murphy plated three with a triple and single and Alivia Reffit sent home three with a double and single.

Ashlyn Davis yielded just two hits in four innings to get the win. She struck out six and didn't walk a batter.

Tri-Valley advanced to play advanced to play at No. 9 Mount Vernon (20-7) at 5 p.m. on May 14 for a berth in the district finals.

Chillicothe Huntington 2, Crooksville 1: The Ceramics' seventh-inning rally fell short in a Division III sectional final on the road.

Down 2-0, Crooksville (12-13) got a runner on in the seventh when Mylin Driggs was hit by a pitch. She took second on Dalena Rollison's groundout and scored when Paige Frame's two-out ground ball was misplayed. A groundout ended the threat.

Rollison doubled and Frame singled with one out in the top of the fifth in a scoreless game, but Madison Goodin lined out and Maelee Collins bunted for an out to end the threat.

Senior Gracie Peck allowed five hits, four walks and no earned runs while striking out six. It was the final game for she and classmate Sonni Nelson, the school's all-time hits leader.

Leah McCloskey's two-run single in the bottom of the inning proved to be the difference.

Mackenzie Paugh went the distance to get the win.

Regular Season

Licking Valley 7, John Glenn 1 (5 inn.): Ryan Gallitz slugged a pair of doubles for the visiting Muskies, who couldn't overcome a 5-1 deficit after three innings in a nonleague game in Hanover.

The game was called in the sixth due to torrential rains in the Licking River Valley.

Valley held a 13-5 edge in hits and stole six bases. Trent Cark and Brandt Lichtenauer had three hits apiece for the winners.

Connor Coveney went the distance to take the loss. He struck out two and didn't yield a walk.

Howard East Knox 7, Coshocton 1 (PPD.): The Redskins and host Bulldogs were delayed in the third inning after an onslaught of early evening rain hit Knox County.

No resumption date has been announced.

Crooksville 9, Morgan 5 (5 inn.): The Ceramics and Raiders got five innings completed just before piledriving rain put a premature end to their Muskingum Valley League-Small School Division tilt in McConnelsville.

Eight players collected one hit for the Ceramics, who also drew six walks.

Eli Sprankle doubled home a run and Brady Cottrell and Daniel Champman singled home runs in the deciding fourth, when the Ceramics (4-16) scored four times to break open a 2-2 game.

Jace Thompson went the distance to get the win, working around nine hits and four walks. He struck out two. Witten Schaad took the loss.

Landon Gheen tallied two singles and Grady Shuster doubled home two runs for Morgan (12-9), which never got closer than 6-4. Brylee Shannon also doubled.
