Though we're all celebrating summer at the moment, soon it'll be the time of year students dread most...back to school season! That means new classes, new schedules and, for college students, new ways to avoid paying for overpriced campus food. Fortunately, Blue Apron can help university kids (and teachers) skip the lines at their Student Union and cook from home.

The meal kit delivery service is offering $100 off the first five boxes of meals for college students and teachers, along with doctors, nurses, hospital employees, first responders, military members and seniors age 55 and over. Newcomers and returning customers can get access to the discount as long as they verify their collegiate affiliation via the ID.me portal. Students can upload a piece of documentation from their university to confirm their enrollment, while teachers can provide proof of their state education license or upload documentation proving their status.

Blue Apron has four different “menus” for shoppers to survey: Signature, Freestyle, Vegetarian and Signature for 4. Meals are priced at $9.99 per serving across every one of these menus except for Signature for 4, which offers prices as low as $7.49 per serving for meals with four or more servings. Shipping is $7.99 for orders of only two meals a week, and free for orders of three or more meals. Shipping for meals off the Signature for 4 menu is always free. That means someone who wanted two recipes per week from the Signature menu, for example, would usually pay $47.95 a week. This new college discount would take a five-week supply of that selection costing $239.75 and bring it down to $139.75.

One of the original meal kit delivery services, Blue Apron has been in front of us for quite some time now. Though we've found its recipes to have flavors and ratios that were off, we did appreciate how quick and easy it was to make the meals we tested on top of the value pricing of meals compared to other services. We also have high hopes for the company's future, as it promised to make its packaging more streamlined and sustainable.

Days of lab sessions, study groups and research papers can be so long that you barely have the energy to look for dinner (let alone cook it). Blue Apron just might be the money-saving solution you're looking for this school season!
