The college football season may be over, but that didn’t stop more national awards from rolling in for TCU.

Late Wednesday night Max Duggan was announced as the 2022 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is presented to a player who was either born in Texas, graduated from a state high school or plays at a Texas-based University.

Coach Sonny Dykes received another Coach of the Year honor from the American Football Coaches Association. It was his eighth national Coach of the Year award.

Duggan is the second Horned Frog to receive the award, joining 2014 recipient Trevone Boykin. Duggan led TCU to its first College Football Playoff Appearance and trip to the CFP National Championship after a 51-45 victory over Michigan in the CFP Semifinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. He totaled 282 yards of offense and four touchdowns in the win over the Wolverines.

Also the recipient of the Davey O’Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as well as runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, Duggan was named to multiple All-America teams. He was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and unanimous First-Team All-Big 12 selection.

Duggan’s 32 touchdown passes and 41 touchdowns responsible for (32 passing, 9 rushing) both rank second for a season at TCU, behind only Boykin. Duggan’s 73 career touchdown passes place second on TCU’s career list, trailing Boykin (86), while his 28 rushing touchdowns tie for sixth.

In his first year at TCU, Dykes led the Horned Frogs to their first College Football Playoff appearance and trip to the CFP National Championship. Picked to finish seventh in the Big 12, TCU was No. 2 in the final Associated Press poll and the second team to be in the CFP after starting the season unranked.

TCU also became just the third team since 1998 to play for a national title while beginning the season unranked. TCU’s six wins over ranked opponents including the Fiesta Bowl victory.

Has TCU found its transfer quarterback?

Dykes said TCU wanted to add another quarterback via the transfer portal and after losing Sam Jackson to California, the Horned Frogs might have found their man.

LSU quarterback Walker Howard shocked many by announcing he would be entering the transfer portal. Howard redshirted his freshman season and appeared in just two games in 2022.

Multiple sources peg TCU as the favorites to land the former top-50 recruit, who was ranked as a top-five quarterback in the Class of 2022. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound gunslinger could push Chandler Morris or be the quarterback of the future for TCU.

Expect for things to move quickly.
