TCU fighting to prevent historic championship defeat. These are the biggest routs

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Javon Bullard intercepts a pass intended for TCU Horned Frogs wide receiver Quentin Johnston in the second quarter during the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

TCU made history by reaching the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

But they’re also making history in the game, and not the kind the Horned Frogs wanted to make.

TCU trailed Georgia 38-7 at halftime — the largest halftime deficit in a championship game in the BCS/College Football Playoff era (since 1998).

In fact, TCU is on the verge of getting beat by a record score if the defending champion Bulldogs keep rolling in the second half.

In the previous 24 college football National Championship Games since 1998, only UCS’s 55-19 shelling of Oklahoma in 2004 was more lopsided.

Other blowouts in the national championship:

2020: Alabama 52, Ohio State 24

2018: Clemson 44, Alabama 16

2012: Alabama 42, Notre Dame 14

2006: Florida 41, Ohio State 14
