Here's a look at the best hitters, setters, blockers and more from the fall high school girls volleyball season:
Player of the Year
Raegan Richardson, Sr., Jensen Beach
Richardson has been the catalyst for Jensen Beach volleyball's immense success over her high school career, which concluded this fall with her third state semifinal appearance. She posted 837 assists, 90 aces, 188 digs and 127 kills in her senior campaign to lead the Falcons to region and district titles with a 25-6 record.
Richardson's statistical achievements are sure to etch her among the best players in Jensen Beach history, including program records for assists (2,965), service points (1,062) and aces (284). She is second in program history in digs (676), matches played (112) and ranks top 20 in school history for kills (386). Richardson appeared in two state finals and was a key figure in Jensen's 2022 state championship team.
She started every match across her four varsity seasons, playing all six rotations since her freshman campaign, and served as team captain the past two years. Richardson was a first team All-Area selection in all four of her varsity seasons and was selected as TCPalm Player of the Year for her sophomore season. She currently holds a 4.0 GPA.
Richardson is set to play Division I college volleyball at Florida Gulf Coast University.
First Team
Katelyn Bobo, Sr., Martin County
Few players in Martin County High School history have set up their teammates better than Bobo. The Tigers' solo setter posted 698 assists in her senior season to conclude her varsity career with the fourth-most assists (1,364) in program history.
Bobo's performance against South Fork in the district tournament semifinals was among the best ever by a Martin County setter as she dished out a career-high 47 assists, the fifth-most in a single match in program history. The 5-foot-6 setter helped Martin County post a 16-13 record with district runner-up and region quarterfinal finishes in the postseason.
Ivy Cooper, Jr., Fort Pierce Central
Cooper is one of the top collegiate volleyball prospects on the Treasure Coast and her performance this fall showed exactly why. The 5-foot-6 libero cleaned up the Cobras' defensive end with 458 digs, averaging five per set, along with 453 serve receptions. She also handed out 100 assists and converted 33 service aces.
Fort Pierce Central finished the season 19-10 and was the second-highest-rated team from the Treasure Coast in the final FHSAA rankings. The Cobras finished as district tournament runner-up and reached the region semifinals of the state tournament, losing to rival Jupiter, a state semifinalist, in both instances. Cooper is verbally committed to Virginia Tech.
Sydney Corbett, Sr., Fort Pierce Central
Palm Beach Atlantic is set to gain one of the Treasure Coast's most lethal offensive players next fall. Corbett was the kills leader (414) for the Cobras this season with a .280 hitting percentage and 4.7 kills per set. She formed a formidable 1-2 punch with fellow senior outside hitter Keilani Zezas. Corbett also chipped in 215 digs, 29 blocks and 23 aces.
Sydney Matthews, Sr., Okeechobee
Matthews saved her best varsity season for last as she proved to be the most influential player in the Lady Brahmans' deep playoff run. She finished with 202 kills, 179 digs and 236 serve receptions and 31 assists this season, all single-season career bests. Among her highlight performances was a 17-kill night against rival Jensen Beach, pushing the reigning state champions to five sets after losing the first two.
The Lady Brahmans posted a 17-9 record en route to finishing as district runner-up and as a region finalist in the state tournament. Okeechobee's district and region final losses both came at the hands of Jensen Beach, which advanced to the state semifinals with the latter win and was responsible for a third of the Lady Brahmans' losses.
Ellie Smith, Jr., Vero Beach
The Indians' solo setter was a major reason Vero Beach was able to significantly improve its record even with the departure of Madison Gravlee to the University of Florida. Smith had 507 assists this season while chipping in 138 digs and 21 aces.
Gravlee was Vero Beach's top offensive player last year so Smith helped incorporate a new cast to great effect: Top returner Aracelys Sanchez averaged 3.3 kills per set in limited action, freshman Ella Gravlee, Madison's younger sister, was the team's kills leader (267) and older players like junior Maleah Mutterback (117 kills) and senior Olga Chernykh (103 kills) stepped up to help Vero Beach finish 15-8 and reach the region semifinals.
Jenna Simmons, Sr., Jensen Beach
Simmons is well-traveled on the Treasure Coast after starting her varsity career at Lincoln Park Academy as a seventh grader and also competing for Treasure Coast High School. Her lone season at Jensen Beach may have been her best, however, as Simmons was the Falcons' No. 1 hitter and kills leader (334).
She proved her six-rotation capabilities as well by finishing top three on the team in digs (231), aces (30) and service points (113). Simmons signed to play collegiate volleyball at Stetson and concluded her varsity career with 1,218 kills, 604 digs, 451 service points, 129 aces and 116 blocks.
Sarah Stouky, Sr., Jensen Beach
The Falcons' starting libero was one of the state's best defensive players this fall even before displaying remarkable strength and perseverance in Jensen Beach's postseason run. Stouky led the Falcons with 280 digs and 391 serve receptions and just 31 passing errors for a 91% success rate.
Stouky's varsity career appeared to end abruptly after she tore her ACL in practice just days after winning the district championship over Okeechobee. She fought her way back to the court in less than two weeks, however, and came off the bench wearing a fitted brace to play the entire game against Barron Collier in the state semifinals.
Kailani Zezas, Sr., Fort Pierce Central
Central's high-powered attack was bolstered by Zezas' impressive senior campaign at outside hitter. She piled up 313 kills on a .256 hitting percentage over 88 sets for the Cobras. Zezas also contributed 200 digs with 56 aces and 18 blocks in her final varsity season.
Second Team
Kaleigh Becton, Sr., Vero Beach
The Indians featured plenty of younger players this year but luckily Becton was on hand to help guide Vero's defensive efforts. Becton led her team in digs (236) and serve receptions (351) by a wide margin, a testament to the responsibility she carried as a Vero senior. The Indians improved in her final varsity campaign with a 15-8 record and region semifinal appearance.
Ella Gravlee, Fr., Vero Beach
The Treasure Coast isn't done dealing with talented Gravlees just yet. One year after her older sister Madison led the Indians in kills before joining the Florida Gators, Ella finished her freshman varsity campaign as the Indians' kills leader (267) by a wide margin. She also had 249 serve receptions and 176 digs, making this 6-foot-2 youngster one to watch.
Catherine Hamilton, Jr., Jensen Beach
A six-rotation player and team captain, Hamilton enjoyed another fine all-around campaign in helping the Falcons reach the state semifinals this fall. She proved to be one of the team's most reliable defensive contributors and posted the most digs (271) while taking 330 serve receptions with just 20 errors. She also placed second on the team in kills (237), third in service points (185) and third in aces (51). Hamilton competes primarily as a beach volleyball player and is committed to the University of North Florida.
Shayla Henry, Sr., Centennial
Henry will be off to join the UAB Blazers of NCAA Division I volleyball next fall but she made sure to leave a positive impact with the Eagles on her way out. Transfer Luye Marquez-Moreno often paired with Henry in attack, creating a tricky duo for local coaches to manage this season. Centennial went 13-9 and reached the semifinals of a difficult district tournament.
Grace Lee, So., Martin County
Lee was a significant two-way threat in her sophomore campaign and led her team with 240 digs while placing second with 298 kills. She also was the Tigers' service leader with 52 aces while chipping in 17 blocks this season. Martin County posted a 16-13 record with a district runner-up and region quarterfinal finish in the postseason.
Luye Marquez-Moreno, Sr., Centennial
Marquez-Moreno was an offseason transfer from Fort Pierce Central but acclimated well into the Centennial attack this season. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter paired with Shayla Henry to help the Eagles post a 13-9 record and reach the semifinals of a difficult district tournament.
Maleah Mutterback, Jr., Vero Beach
Mutterback stands among the area's tallest players at 6-foot-3 and was a key player to step up after the graduation of Madison Gravlee to the University of Florida. Mutterback was second on her team with 113 kills and led the Indians with 46 total blocks. Vero Beach increased its win total to 15-8 and reached the region semifinals.
Aubrey Scammell, Sr., South Fork
Scammell was reliably productive in the middle for the Bulldogs this season with 158 kills and a team-best 64 blocks and 54 aces. She proved to be a model of consistency during her varsity career: Scammell averaged 157.3 kills, 64 blocks and 44.3 aces over her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. South Fork finished 13-13 and fell in the district semifinals.
Penelope Van Eman, Sr., Okeechobee
Charleston Southern is set to gain this talented Okeechobee veteran after an all-around solid season in her final varsity campaign. Van Eman paired with fellow senior Sydney Matthews offensively and was second on the Lady Brahmans with 154 kills. She also led the squad in aces (41) and serve receptions (273). The Lady Brahmans posted a 17-9 record en route to finishing as district runner-up and as a region finalist in the state tournament.
