Has Taylor Swift hype led to higher prices for Packers-Chiefs tickets at Lambeau Field?

GREEN BAY - The Packers are coming off a win after defeating the Lions on Thanksgiving. They're set to play last year's Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Oh, and pop superstar Taylor Swift may show up to Lambeau.

But all these factors aren't translating to skyrocketing ticket prices for the upcoming game. In fact, the opposite is true.

While ticket reseller Vivid Seats said the Packers-Chiefs matchup was the second-hottest home game ticket on their marketplace this season — just behind Packers v. Vikings Oct. 29 — sales appear to be cooling at multiple resellers.

The average secondary get-in price for the Dec. 3 matchup has dropped $31 over the past three days since we last checked Nov. 28. Then, the average ticket price was $165; now, it's $134. Packers-Chiefs tickets are even selling below face value at several secondary markets.

According to Green Bay Ticket Service sales manager Jenn Vincent, prices for the game have been dropping during the week with no uptick in sales.

"As much as we hoped the hype of (Swift) potentially coming would have materialized into something more, that hasn’t been the case," Vincent said.

You could blame the Frozen Tundra: temperatures are forecast to be in the 30s Sunday, with a 50-50 chance of a wintry mix falling earlier that day. Still, the temperatures are forecast to be above average for the time of year with only a few flurries possibly lingering to kickoff, so it's still no Snow Bowl.

For our look at Packers' tickets prices, we average the lowest ticket prices at 11 secondary-market websites: Event USA, Gametime, Green Bay Ticket Service, SeatGeek, StubHub, TicketIQ, Ticket King, Ticketmaster, TickPick, TicketSmarter and Vivid Seats.

Note that ticket brokers can add fees on top of the prices listed here, so actual costs might be higher.

What matters about this game? The Packers have a two-game winning streak, and they defeated one of the NFC's best teams, the Lions, on Thanksgiving Day on the road. This will be a chance to see if that improvement trend line is a 45-degree angle or a roller coaster. Jordan Love's first start was against the Chiefs in 2021, a game the Packers lost 13-7 with Love running an offense designed for Aaron Rodgers. Everything has changed since then.
