Is Taylor Swift hinting about her future plans? What fans think about all the clues
Taylor Swift is a mastermind, and she knows it. But she’s only cryptic and Machiavellian ‘cause she cares.
Swift announced three Miami dates for her Eras Tour at Hard Rock Stadium and more stops in the U.S. and Canada. But fans online have been speculating that Swift had something big planned for Thursday, Aug. 3, after picking up on hidden clues the artist has been dropping for months.
But perhaps the tour dates aren’t the only major thing happening. Many believe — and hope — that she’s going to announce the re-recording for “1989.”
Here are some Easter eggs fans found:
The upside-down phone in the ‘Midnights’ track announcements
In September 2022, Swift started a series on social media to announce the track titles of her “Midnights” album. The series, “Midnights Mayhem with Me,” featured Swift pulling bingo balls with track numbers on them and speaking the song titles into a red rotary phone. But in two episodes, Swift held the phone upside down, sending fans into a panic about what it meant because, if you’re new here, nothing Swift does is ever accidental.
The phone was upside down for the announcement of tracks 3 and 8, Anti-Hero and Vigilante S---, respectively.
Fans theorize that the 8/3 duo allude to a date, so the devoted detectives have been anticipating a big announcement on this date, which also happens to be the first night of the Los Angeles concerts.

Selena Gomez’s makeup brand invites influencers to Los Angeles show
Rare Beauty, Selena Gomez’s makeup brand, sent influencers invitations to the Aug. 3 Eras show in Los Angeles. Swift and Gomez are close friends, and during Swift’s Reputation tour in 2018, she brought Gomez on stage to perform a song together.
The intention of the invites remains a bit of a mystery, but fans are keeping tabs on it anyway. Maybe a duet at the concert? Or teasing a vault track duet on “1989 (Taylor’s Version)“?
Los Angeles SoFi Stadium teases ‘1989’ re-recording
SoFi Stadium will be hosting Swift for six nights. On Monday, the stadium posted an Instagram carousel with Swift-related photos, including a lifeguard tower that has “1989 (Taylor’s Version)“ on the side of it.
People in the comments were quick to point out the photo.
“Does sofi stadium know something we don’t…????” one user commented.
Social media themes are back to the ‘Midnights’ layouts
Swift’s Instagram was decked out in the “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)“ aesthetic and a link in her bio to the re-recording. But about a week ago, the singer’s Instagram page returned to the “Midnights” layouts. Even her profile picture was changed.
One of Swift’s staples when announcing a re-recording is to match her social media channels to the theme of the album that’s coming out. If fans are right about a “1989 (Taylor’s Version)“ announcement, then her social media may be an indication that she’s ready to dress it up for the re-recording.
Hints in ‘Karma’ and ‘I Can See You’ music videos
In the “Karma” music video, Swift holds a cup of coffee with a clock on it and her thumbs showing. Seems innocent enough, right? Wrong. Assume that everything, absolutely everything, Swift does has a hidden meaning, no matter how big or small.
Her left thumbnail is painted blue, “1989’s” designated color (every album has a color that represents it) and is poised right next to the number eight on the clock, fans also connecting it to August.
August is also significant because it’s one of Swift’s most beloved songs.
In the “I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” music video, actors Joey King, Taylor Lautner and Presley Cash break Swift out of a hostage situation and at the end, the four ride off in a van. A sign hangs at the top of the bridge they cross: 1”-9” 8.9 tv. Many took this as indication that Swift is on her way to “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”
