Taskmaster star Phil Wang has confirmed the release date for his new comedy special on Netflix.

The comedian will unveil his new special, Wang in There, Baby!, on September 3, with the hour-long film serving as the follow-up to Philly Philly Wang Wang.

Wang in There, Baby! was taped at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe and will feature musings on “being British, being Asian, octopuses, America, and the trappings of minor fame,” as per the press release.

Wang remains best known in the UK for his role on Taskmaster, where he appeared in the seventh series back in 2018. He competed alongside James Acaster, Kerry Godliman, Jessica Knappett and Rhod Gilbert, finishing in last place.

The most recent series, which aired earlier this year, saw John Robins crowned champion as he pipped Joanne McNally. Following the conclusion, the cast for the 18th series was unveiled, with Jack Dee, Emma Sidi, Andy Zaltzman, Rosie Jones and Babatunde Aléshé taking part.

An avid gamer, Wang recently fulfilled a lifelong dream as he hosted the 20th BAFTA Games Awards in April, with the star saying in a statement: “What an honour to present it on the Awards’ 20th anniversary! I’ve always loved and been fascinated by video games.

“When I was about 8, I begged my dad for our first computer so that I could play Ski Free – an 8-bit skiing game that came with Windows. Games have come a long way in their sophistication since. I have wept at The Last of Us, laughed at Portal, screamed at FIFA, and Ski Free is presumably now Ski With Ads.”

“This year BAFTA is proud to celebrate two decades of creative excellence within the games industry with the BAFTA Games Awards,” added BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip. “Phil Wang is the perfect host – a consummate presenter – entertaining, witty, knowledgeable and passionate about the games industry.”

Taskmaster airs and streams on Thursday nights at 9pm on Channel 4, where you can also stream previous series.
