The Talk Sets September Premiere Date — Who’s New for Season 14?

CBS’ The Talk will once again get talking on Monday, Sept. 18, when Season 14 premieres amid the ongoing WGA strike.

The Talk typically employs one WGA writer. According to our sister site Variety, the position will not be filled during the strike, and the hosts will ad-lib their remarks.

ABC rival The View, which is also a WGA signatory, opened its new season earlier this month, and as such has seen its studio get picketed. The Drew Barrymore Show, meanwhile, drew much attention to itself when headliner Barrymore declared that she would “own” the decision to resume taping new episodes amid the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. “We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind,” Barrymore said, though the actual issue is her show’s presumed use of non-WGA writers to get things back up and running.

While CBS’ The Talk has no on-camera changes to speak of — Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood will all return as hosts for Season 14, reportedly on an updated set — it does have a new showrunner calling the shots.

Multi-Emmy Award winner Rob Crabbe, who most recently served as the long-running executive producer of CBS’ The Late Show With James Corden, was tapped back in June to oversee The Talk Season 14.

“Rob Crabbe is a highly respected, award-winning executive producer, and a valued member of the CBS family,” CBS Entertainment chief Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios boss David Stapf said in a joint statement. “His ability to produce culturally relevant content and engaging conversations that extend beyond the television screen makes him the perfect person to lead The Talk. We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with Rob as the showrunner of a key program on CBS’ No. 1 daytime lineup.”

CBS previously announced return dates for The Price Is Right, Let’s Make a Deal, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless, which you can find here.
