Talk Back: Saturday’s Lions auction is online only

We’re always in a rush. So much so that we’ve routinely taken the checkered flag at Indy long before Will Power, Tony Kanaan, and the rest make it out of pit row for the warm-up lap. So a while back when we chanced across something we wanted in the worst possible way, we weren’t about to sit back and cool our heels. After all, the last time we saw it offered, the seller wanted eleventy-bazillion dollars for it. But this time it was more our style. An auction.

With a zero-opening bid.

And darned if some dude didn’t have the audacity, the unmitigated gall to go after it first. Like he was entitled to the thing. Well, we learned him a thing or by swooping in with milliseconds to spare, sniping him but good, and riding off into the sunset with our winnings held high.

It’s good to be king.

And now it’s your turn to experience the same thrills and exhilaration as you battle the competition for merchandise and services galore during the annual Adrian Breakfast Lions Club and Hillsdale Lions Club radio auction just two days from now. It’s packed to the gills with more goodies than you can shake a stick at, with a different batch auctioned off every half hour between 12:30 and 5:30 Saturday afternoon.

And what an array there is!

Check this out. An absolutely gorgeous 7-foot-tall grandfather clock framed in wood and glass with glass shelves that’ll hold curios and other display items, a Fire TV Cube streaming media player, sturdy 6-foot and 8-foot tables that are perfect for what you’re serving at graduation gatherings, sets of stackable chairs so your guests will have a place to sit, and an 8-quart digital air fryer to prepare all the delectables you’ll serve. Plus YMCA and fitness center memberships so they can burn off the calories and be fit and trim once again in no time at all.

Want to cheer on your favorite team? We’ve got Detroit Tigers tickets, local high school and college athletic passes, even chances to hit the links yourself and spend the day chasing that little white ball over hill and over dale. Just be sure to get Dale’s permission first.

He gets pretty cranky when someone runs over him.

The adventuresome types may find airplane and glider rides right up their alley. Or maybe you’d prefer kitchen appliances — mixers, toasters, cookers, waffle makers and the like. And take a break from the work routine with Croswell and Adrian Symphony tickets, a stupendous Lenawee County Fairgrounds admissions and grandstand passes package. Or season tickets to the upcoming TCA national touring season line-up.

Plus gift baskets stuffed to overflowing, jewelry, a rolling tool tote packed with tools, a lamp with charging base, assorted music CDs, gift cards to every restaurant under the sun, a three-speed turntable, a smartwatch, dental and vision services, photography session, paint and deck stain, tanning, flowers, pet wellness, oil changes, radio-controlled cars, an AM/FM/shortwave radio, and much, much more.

And lest we forget ... even more Tigers tickets!

Every penny raised goes for the clubs’ projects. So fire up your computer, your phone, tablet, or Alexa, because this auction can only be heard online at localbuzzradio.com or dougspade.com. It’s only hours away. So go smash your piggy bank, cash in your chips, and practice dialing the auction number — 517-266-4500 — so you don’t mess up on the big day. And remember to bid early and often. Otherwise, Boss Dog will show up at your door. And you don’t want that.

He can be crankier than Dale.
