Tacoma woman to appear on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ on Thursday. Here’s how you can audition

Game-show enthusiasts can tune in to “Wheel of Fortune” on Thursday to root for a fellow Puget Sound area resident.

In a news release Tuesday, the show announced that Ashley Laumb of Tacoma will be one of the lucky contestants who appear on national television to solve word puzzles with a chance to earn prizes.

Laumb is an avid fan of “Wheel of Fortune,” one of America’s longest-running game shows. She and her husband began watching the show while she was pregnant with her son, who is now 18. Today, she continues watching the game show hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White with her 5-year-old daughter, Sofia.

Laumb has given back to Pierce County residents through community work. She’s built a house with Habitat for Humanity, and she made a “giving home” and donated its profits to food bank Nourish Pierce County and homeless shelter Helping Hands House.

Sofia initially encouraged her mother to try out for the show. Laumb attended one of the show’s “Wheelmobile” recruiting events in 2019 but didn’t make it on stage. She applied a second time online and was accepted.

Laumb found out she was accepted on the show on her daughter’s birthday. She intends to call “S” as her first letter guess, after Sofia.

Pierce County is no stranger to representation on national TV. In 2020, another Tacoma resident appeared on “Wheel of Fortune,” and a Puyallup resident met Sajak and White on stage in 2018. A Lakewood resident won the show in 2014.

To watch Laumb and others compete for winnings, tune into KOMO 4 at 7 p.m. Thursday.

How to apply for ‘Wheel of Fortune’

In the past, “Wheel of Fortune” recruiters have hosted contestant tryouts at the Emerald Queen Casino on Interstate 5. The Wheelmobile traveled to the casino in 2017 and 2019.

The show has made it easier to apply. Anyone can apply on the “Wheel of Fortune” website for a chance to appear on the show. To do so, you will need to provide the following:

  • Personal information, including contact information and home address

  • A photo from the neck or waist up

  • A video no longer than 60 seconds (not including TikTok), explaining why you would be a great contestant and that displays your excitement

If show producers think you are a good fit for the show, they will reach out to you for a virtual audition.
