These Tacoma-area diners, pubs and restaurants are open Christmas Day

No matter how or whether you celebrate Christmas, there are plenty of options for dining out over the holiday weekend.

Three years ago when I arrived in Tacoma, I called Russ Heaton, the owner of Doyle’s Public House to ask about their Christmas Day plans. “We’re going to be the place for people who don’t have a place,” he said. When I messaged him this week to double-check that nothing had changed, he replied, “We are open 365!”

Let’s ignore the blip of the dark winter of 2020.

Coming off a wild month of World Cup viewing parties, the bar’s staff is actually looking forward to a brief respite before their other crazy season: St. Patrick’s Day.

I received a similar response when I called Zesty Steakhouse, a new-this-year destination for Cajun seafood boils, steaks and other pub fare. The bar is lined with televisions for the trio of NFL games.

Here’s a look at restaurants open Christmas Day in and around Tacoma — including two of TNT Diner’s best new restaurants of the year — as well as a few Christmas Eve ideas for entertaining out-of-town guests. Despite the official observed-holiday on Monday, Dec. 26, many places are also open standard hours.
