Taco restaurant closes KC area spot after 10 years. It’s still open in Johnson County

Locally owned Taco Republic has closed its Kansas City, Kansas, restaurant.

It opened in September 2013 at 500 County Line Road, in a former gas station across from Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que.

It served street tacos with marinated steak and blackened shrimp, along with bowls, fajitas, enchiladas and more. It also offered patio seating and yard games.

In a statement, the company said it decided not to renew its lease and closed permanently on Feb. 4.

“We have a tremendous amount of gratitude for all our guests and employees, who have shown so much passion and dedication to Taco Republic since opening in 2013.”

In 2019, Whitney VinZant purchased the Taco Republic operation and sister concept, BRGR Kitchen + Bar, from Bread & Butter Concepts. In 2021, he opened a Taco Republic in Corinth Square, 4100 W. 83rd St., Prairie Village.

Employees of the Taco Republic in Kansas City, Kansas, were offered positions at the company’s other area restaurants.
