Let's Taco About It

When hunger strikes and you need a fast, tasty fix, Taco Bell often comes to the rescue. Known as the go-to spot to satisfy those late-night cravings with fast-food deals (my real ones know nothing hits like that 2 a.m. TB run after a night out on the town). Whether it's a late night rendezvous or during a busy workday, Taco Bell stands out for being affordable, convenient, and, most importantly, delicious.

But as much as we love a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, not everything on the menu is a winner. According to Taco Bell employees and fans, here are 8 menu items to steer clear of, and why.

1. Chili Cheese Burrito

According to one Taco Bell worker, shoppers should avoid the Chili Cheese Burrito because it's "rarely ordered" and you'll likely get "old chili that's not stirred or just an inconsistent burrito." The reason for this is that "stores usually only make one batch per day, and some stores will just put red nacho cheese sauce and call it a chili cheese burrito."

Old Chili? Yeah, no thanks. Plus, according to the employee, the Chili Cheese Burrito is "just overall a bad item that needs to be taken off the menu." Well, yikes — we'll take their word for it.

2. Crunchy Tacos

One user suggests staying away from the chain's "normal crunchy tacos" because they tend to be "under-filled, or they are soggy and broken." Instead, order the Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Tacos, writes the user. "Those are good." We have to agree. Taco Bell may not get everything right, but its Doritos tacos? Those bad boys are bursting with flavor and offer the most satisfying, crunchy bite.

3. Cheesy Roll Up

Another Taco Bell worker says the one item they stay away from at Taco Bell is the Cheesy Roll Up. "It's just a vessel for sauce," writes the Redditor, adding, "So like, you only want to take a bite of Diablo sauce but you have enough self-respect to not just slurp it out of the packet, then you get a cheesy roll up."

4. Burrito Supreme

Taco Bell's Burrito Supreme is another item that falls short in delivering the satisfying experience one might expect from such a classic menu item, says one user. "I’ve given it chances before but it’s just so bland," they write, adding that the lackluster "filling-to-tortilla ratio" leaves much to be desired and frequently results in a bite that's more tortilla than anything else.

5. Crunchwrap Supreme

According to one user, the chain's Crunchwrap Supreme "always appear to come out flat or uneven based on the pictures you guys post." Several users were in agreement, noting that Taco Bell's fried items tend to vary in consistency. Since preparation can differ between stores, some Crunchwraps end up being overly greasy or soggy, users say.

Plus, at 540 calories and over 1,200 mg of sodium, the Crunchwrap is one of the unhealthiest menu items you can snag at the Bell.

6. Chicken or Steak Quesadilla

Another user notes that Taco Bell's quesadillas are not worth it because they're overpriced and some stores will skimp on the filling.

"I always have tortillas and shredded cheese in the fridge, it's a 2-minute task to make a bigger, better, cheaper quesadilla at home," they write, adding, "[I can add] as much real sour cream as I want, jalapeño slices and leftover meats to add, plus a stash of sauce packets for the TB vibe."

"The chicken quesadillas is in no way shape or form worth $5," adds another Redditor.

7. Chalupas

This one's tricky because TB's chalupas are so freaking good sometimes. But according to one employee, most stores can only "fry six of the breads at a time and they go stale fast." However, the employee adds, "They taste really good though when they're fresh so of course people order them all the time." The takeaway? Enjoy those chalupas while they're hot. Noted.

8. The Guacamole

While some of Taco Bell's deep-fried items can be a hit or miss, one item most users agreed to stay far, far away from is the chain's guacamole. "From a taste stand point I’d stay the [f-bomb] away from our guacamole," writes one Taco Bell worker, while another adds, "I agree with the guacamole. TB guac is trash."
