T&G Student of the Week: Let's recognize one of these students from Central Mass. Vote now

Nominations for the Telegram & Gazette's latest Student of the Week are in. Now it's time for you to pick the best of the best.

Voting is open until noon Thursday. There are eight nominees this week.

Participating high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors nominated students they say have shown outstanding academic and school achievement and community service.

We will announce the winner on Friday.

The nominees for the week of Jan. 29 are:

Fidelia Asongweed, Millbury High School: The Millbury High senior is a bright ray of sunshine, always spreading positivity and love through the halls of Millbury, says Principal Christopher Lowe. She excels in her academic studies while also being a core member of our basketball team. She is active in co-curricular activities, as well as within her class. Fidelia epitomizes what is affectionately called Woolie Pride, Lowe said.

Andrew Boisvert, Leicester High School: Beyond being one of the kindest students Assistant Principal Jennifer Reynolds says she has met, Andrew goes out of his way to ensure other students have a reason to engage with their high school community. The epitome of Wolverine Pride, the senior is an athlete, good student and volunteers hours upon hours of his time.

Ghenwa Elmaola, Abby Kelley Foster High School: Ghenwa, a senior, is recognized at Abby Kelley not only for her academic excellence, but for her strength of character. Ghenwa's integrity makes her a highly trusted individual who is widely appreciated for her honesty, reliability and dependability. Ghenwa excels in her academics and is also able to juggle athletics (as a team captain), work, family responsibilities and many extracurricular activities, modeling for others the kind of power that can result from working hard.

Priscilla Fordjour, Fitchburg High School: The Fitchburg High School senior has a 4.69 GPA and perfect attendance. Since moving to the U.S. from Ghana in 2016, Priscilla’s kind nature and strong work ethic have been something to aspire to. An active member of Honors Academy, Early College Academy, Future Educator Academy, and the school's STAR ROTC program, Priscilla is a force to be reckoned with. She will be graduating from FHS with 18 college credits already under her belt, setting her up for success on her journey as a first-generation college student.

Tess Lambert, Burncoat High School: Tess is a six-year member of the Burncoat Dance Department and the captain of the BHS Dance Team & Spirit Program. Tess is heading to nationals this year competing in Pom and Game Day Live as a member of the first Spirit Program to compete at this level! Tess is a teaching assistant for the Performing Arts class and has choreographed for numerous performances this year. She maintains a 4.7 GPA and is in the top 10% of her class. Tess is kind, responsible, hardworking and a great role model to other students in the program.

Kyle Leger, Fitchburg High School: Kyle is in the top 2% of his class, has had perfect attendance for nearly three years, is a National Honor Society member and will be majoring in aerospace engineering.

Rushil Mohan, St. John's High School: Rushil is among the hardest-working, achieving, and driven students when it comes to both academics and extracurricular accomplishments that one will encounter in a career in education. He is among the top academic students in his class with his GPA. He has been a leader of the robotics team, founder of our HOSA Chapter which has attained state leadership recognition, founder of Quiz Bowl, which has an upcoming television broadcast next month, and a member of the varsity tennis team. Outside of school, Rushil has secured internships with local research labs and also served as a financial intern for both biotech firms and local hospitals.

Henser Cabarcas Torres, South High Community School: Henser is a very hard worker and a very intelligent young man. He is curious and proactive in learning the English language. Henser is from Colombia and arrived in the United States on Sept. 21, 2023. He came to South High on Oct. 13, 2023. Henser is personable, funny and friendly to everyone he meets.
