Here’s the thing about babies: they don’t need much. Of course, teeny tiny shoes are adorable, and so are stuffed animals, but the list of essentials is short: a safe place to sleep, diapers, food, a car seat, and something to wear. If I could add just one more item? It’d be a comfortable, functional nursery chair.

I’ll be honest. I was a little stubborn when it came to picking out furniture for my son’s room. In fact, I thought the entire concept of a chair that plugs into the wall was ridiculous. But as I searched for a glider that met all my requirements (comfy-yet-classic looking, not too big, a soft gray color), the option for it to be a power recliner, and one that featured a USB port on the side kept coming up. Finally, my husband talked me into it, and we ordered Pottery Barn’s Comfort Power Swivel Glider Recliner.

Now, more than seven months into parenthood? I get it—even if I still think it’s a little silly. To be able to charge your phone while soothing your baby to sleep is a luxury, and one that’s worth investing in. Plus, the chair checks every box: it’s so comfortable, and the fabric is easily wipeable, which is essential when babies are involved. Plus, it doesn’t take up too much space in the nursery, so there’s still plenty of room to play. And it's the perfect place to feed him now, and read to him later.

But the ultimate endorsement? That comes from my son. Just a few minutes of rocking and my baby boy is fast asleep.
