As a style editor, it is part of my job to love a good trend. Ballet flats? On board. Mary Janes? I love them and always will. But when the mesh shoe started to make its simmering rise to popularity last fall, I was... not convinced. If I want my feet to get some air, I'd just wear sandals. Or so I thought?
The weather this spring has led me to lean on my flats all that much more because sandal season is a bit late. But by about early April I was getting super sick of the same textures, whether fabric or leather, and was yearning for a touch of something else to keep my outfits looking fresh. And it turns out, the Le Monde Beryl Luna Mesh Ballerina Flats were the answer to my style malaise, and I knew it the moment I tried them on for the first time.
First and foremost, I love Le Monde Beryl for their elegant lines in all of their designs, but this elongating flat is very subtly hot. I mean, it is mesh. But the v-neck throat at the top is a perfect detail, taking the shoe from regular to elegant oh-so easily. I love the line that it makes in contrast with a cropped pant—and the emphasis that the patent piping gives it. Yes, I'm wearing a flat, but it's not your average ballet flat if you know what I mean.
I'll admit, the feeling of mesh took a minute to get used to, and I would definitely advise to size down with these, but they are extremely well made, comfortable and have a durable sole. Very important to someone like me who is constantly on the go. I've found that they look great with layers of textures and add a pop of cool factor to color blocked outfits. No matter what, they look well blended in outfits while also adding the right amount of contrast. A tough feat. Plus I feel cool when I wear them.
I love them so much, I'm even considering evolving and getting a mesh pair with crystal accents. Because if this spring has taught me anything, you can never have enough flat shoes.
