System Shock Remake Console Release Date Revealed With New Trailer

The remake of Looking Glass’ iconic immersive sim System Shock is headed to consoles, with a release date set for May. Developed by Nightdive Studios, the remake will pit console players against the rogue AI SHODAN after its PC version released to critical acclaim last year.

A new trailer for the game was also released, with what looks like footage captured from the console version. The trailer is capped at 30fps, which is disappointing given that the PC version was highly performant, soaring above 60fps on mid-range hardware. Nightdive Studios does confirm that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will run at "up to" 60fps with resolution topping out at 4K.

The remake retains the gameplay of the original title with upgrades to its visuals, sound, interface, and controls. Besides those, the console version will also launch with a new ending and will feature an optional female protagonist. The new ending features "upgrades" in the final confrontation with SHODAN.

The revival of the 1994 game isn't the only thing fans can look forward to, as a System Shock TV show is also in the works. The show will stream exclusively on Binge, although there has been no news of it since it tapped Greg Russo, screenwriter of the Mortal Kombat movie, to develop the series back in 2022.

The System Shock remake will be available both physically and digitally for PS5 and Xbox Series X, while the last-gen consoles will only receive a digital edition of the game, which is a shame.

System Shock will be released on current-gen and last-gen consoles on May 21, while the PC version is available on Steam and Epic Games Store.
