Sydney Sweeney Responds to 'Euphoria' Nude Scene Trolling

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has hit out at the trolls who reacted negatively to her nude scenes in the Emmy-winning HBO show.

In the first season of Euphoria, Sweeney's character Cassie has nude videos of her circulated around her school. Since that episode first aired, trolls have screenshotted images of the clip and uploaded them to social media.

In an interview with GQ, Sweeney condemned those people and pointed out the irony in the fact that her character was going through a difficult time with her videos being linked and then, in real life, those videos caused Sweeney issues, too.

“It got to the point where they were tagging my family. My cousins don’t need that. It’s completely disgusting and unfair,” Sweeney said.

“You have a character that goes through the scrutiny of being a sexualized person at school and then an audience that does the same thing.”

However, Sweeney said that, despite the reactions of those trolls, she doesn't want to avoid those sorts of characters or shows or storylines. She did suggest, however, that has wanted to hide away in the past, but not now.

“Not anymore,” Sweeney said. “I think it’s ridiculous. I’m an artist, I play characters. It makes me want to play characters that piss people off more.”

Earlier this year, Sweeney earned dual Emmy nominations for her performances in Euphoria and The White Lotus. Since gaining acclaim and popularity with Euphoria, Sweeney has gone from strength to strength.

She's set to star in Sony's Spider-Man spin-off movie Madame Web alongside Emma Roberts, Dakota Johnson, Adam Scott and Tahar Rahim. The film's due to be released in 2024.
