At the 2024 Met Gala on Monday, Sydney Sweeney traded in her signature blonde hair for a sleek black bob—just for the night, at least.

The Anyone but You star walked the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps sporting a jet-black wig, cut into a bob with bangs, with the help of hairstylist Glen Oropeza. Sweeney looked nearly unrecognizable as she debuted what was quite a departure from her typical blonde hair and natural glam. Before hitting the Met Gala red carpet, Sweeney unveiled her new ’do with a transparent crystalized veil featuring over 2,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals, custom-made by Jennifer Behr.

To shape the wig, Oropeza cut it to a bob length with bangs that floated just above Sweeney’s eyes, after securing it to her head with hairpins. He then added textured flat-iron waves to the piece. To give the wig that high-shine black finish, Oropeza finished with Kerastase Elixir Ultime L’Huile Original Hair Oil and locked the waves in place with Kerastase Laque Extrême.

Even though Sweeney brought a bit of vixen to the red carpet, she hewed to the night’s theme, which was “The Garden of Time”—based on the museum’s Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”—with a floral ensemble. The Euphoria star donned a powder-blue, Cinderella-inspired gown with transparent romantic sleeves and a big skirt by Miu Miu.

Plus, her longtime makeup artist Melissa Hernandez created a soft glam look that featured a black winged eyeliner just below the tip of her bangs and a radiant baby-pink flush on her cheeks. To prep the skin, Hernandez used the Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask, Cream Skin Toner and Moisturizer, and Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturizer, all from Laneige.

While tonight’s transformation is temporary, Sweeney did recently debut a major hair change for this year’s Vanity Fair Oscars Party, cutting her long blonde locks into an Old Hollywood textured lob. For now, the bob looks like it’s here to stay for Sweeney, but in her signature blonde hue.
