Suspected California serial killer arrested while ‘out hunting’ new victims, say police

A California man suspected of six cold-blooded slayings was arrested early Saturday morning while he was “out hunting” for another victim, cops said.

Wesley Brownlee, 43, was identified by police as the serial killer who fatally shot five people in Stockton and one person in Oakland.

Brownlee was arrested around 2 a.m. Saturday. Police said several of his victims were killed around that time of day.

“We watched his patterns and determined early this morning, he was on a mission to kill,” Stockton police chief Stanley McFadden said. “He was out hunting.”

The five Stockton killings occurred between July 8 and Sept. 27. Police said on Sept. 30 that they were looking for a serial killer. Following that announcement, cops got hundreds of tips on potential leads.

Investigators also tied Brownlee to a fatal shooting in April 2021 in Oakland, about 60 miles west. He’s also accused of attempting to kill a woman in Stockton that same month.

None of the victims were beaten or robbed, and the woman who survived said her attacker didn’t even speak while trying to kill her.
